There are no stupid questions. Not all chickens get worms, some get them from bacteria in the soil or insects they eat others get them from feces either in their food or water. We had one hen that had gotten gape worm from a bacteria that lives in the intestine of earth worms, but the...

Watch this and it would give you a good idea what to look for, but as Threehorses said they do yawn for other reasons, so you will have to know your own chickens normal behavior.
The problem with the whole preventative discussion is that for some worms once you know they have them it may be too late. We just recently lost our oldest hen to Gapeworm, by the time she displayed symptoms they had already infested her windpipe, but like the vet said once she gets to this...
Lisa,
The sneezing that you are seeing could actually be a cough. With my girl I thought she was sneezing, but because this was my time with chickens I didn't know the difference. They will cough to try and clear the blockage in their throat.
Here is the video I found that helped me...
Sorry for the delay in thanking you for all your help. I was able to identify that she had Gapeworm, but unfortunately it was too late. We finally found a vet that treats chickens and he gave her a shot of Baytril and Atrium to help reduce the swelling, but she died about 20 minutes after we got...
One of my girls (have 3) has been sneezing and I can hear her wheezing when she breathes. She has been looking and acting normal otherwise and the other two are not exhibiting any of these symptoms.
I would take her to a vet if I could find one that treats chickens, but I guess even country...

I think that if I was to build it again I would make the following changes:
1. Raise the nesting boxes higher so the girls don't kick litter into them.
2. Use 2X2" for the coop itself instead of the 2X4" to make it lighter.
3. Don't make a shingled wood roof, instead make a slanted...
I don't have any actual plans for this because I built it as I went along, but if you want to build one let me know and I'll give the dimensions and see if I can put a rough drawing for you.

We got our RIRs in the middle of July as pullets and I'm happy to announce the oldest layed her first two eggs on New Years eve, the second one started a few days later. So now we are just waiting for the last one, I figure in about another week.
Anyway we have had about 8 eggs total now from...
This post couldn't have come at a more fitting time. When I first picked up my pullets I didn't ask how old they were and someone from this board estimated them to be about 9 weeks (that was back around July 18th). So we figured they would start laying the first week in October.
Well here it is...

I originally had this one sitting on the ground without the wheels, but when I put the wheels on it the whole thing was off the ground about 5" which allowed the girls to scoot under and out. So to solve that I put a skirt around the bottom, you may not be able to see the detail but...

If I was to actually lift it, I need the help of my son to lift the back. But with all the wheels on it just one person can pull it.

So, is that shock absorber a car shock absorber or screen door thingy.
and I hope my thingy description gives an indicator of my mechanical skills.

I believe it's a car shock from looking at the picture.

Overall it is 4ft wide x 8ft long x 5ft high.
The run itself is 4ft wide x 8ft long x 3ft high and 1 1/2ft under the coop
The coop itself is 4ft wide x 3ft long x 4ft high up the sides and an extra 1ft to the peak.

that rocks...yet can it work for opening also?
Im not discerning that from what Im reading
I'm sure with a little bit of playing it could be modified to also open
Well about 95% finished. My original thought was to leave the wheels off until I was ready to move it, but since I always build things that can withstand Gail force winds it weights a ton to have to lift the coop end to put the wheels on.
So I ended up building a skirt around the bottom and in...
If you can't find it at one of the box stores in your area and they don't sell it at one of their stores within driving distance you can order them from Mueller Steel http://www.muellerinc.com/ or do a search for steel roofing on the internet.

Personally why not invest in a small generator and then use the corded tools wherever? I've had a $200 generator from harborfreight for a little over 3 years now and it still is running strong.
Even with a great brand like Milwaukee, cordless tools with always need to have their batteries...
