I have a hen who is hatching 2 eggs as i type this. She started with 6 but not all made it, so I got one of my favorite breeds at the feed store today (Australorp) and tried to put her with the hen. Maybe this was a rookie mistake but the hen wanted to kill the chick. Will I have better luck...
Young hen who is having trouble eating. I've noticed how thin she is so I have to figure this out. Her beak has always been overgrown but there is not much "dead" beak to cut off. I've never had to clip a beak before and I'm wondering if it's safe and if I take off too much will it hurt her?
I'm so sorry for your loss :( It sounds like it was coccidia. I have a hen come down with that (and some other internal parasites). We tried to treat it but she had a seizure and just died. It's actually contagious so watch the rest of your flock. If you have a vet they can do fecal tests for it.
I think you are right. However later that day she did lay an egg but not since. Today I go out and she is stuffed up in a corner of the run barely moving, I thought she was dead already. Her abdomen is insanely swollen, she's not eating or drinking. She's soaking in a warm tub now not giving me...
Yesterday I noticed she was walking funny, and when I looked she had poop all dried to her butt. So we soaked her and got that off but today he is still walking slowly, legs are far apart and I would call it a waddle, even for a chicken. Her butt area did look swollen yesterday but I thought...
Does it have to be poultry specific B vitamins? I have a liquid B Complex I can put in his water. If not that then where can I get some? I have 2 other hens he has been with since birth to day of first issue. They are fine. So a vitamin deficiency would be a much better outcome.
It started about 4 days ago that he was stumbling all over. I separated him and he continues to eat and drink well but is in obvious distress and maybe pain when he tries to walk (you will see him panting in the video) He WANTS to walk but just can't. Today is worse as he did a full split trying...
This started about 3 days ago and I'm not sure if it's an illness or an injury. I know my daughter dropped her down right before this (about 2 feet). But I think I noticed it just prior to her picking her up. It's getting worse each day. She is still eating and drinking good and we have her...
I recently had to rehome our Ameracauna rooster (we can't have them) but I kept him as long as I could to get some babies. I have never seen him mate with my Ameracauna but when I checked an egg today I saw this. Is it fertile? If so I'm gonna save a clutch of her eggs to incubate.
This is "Toothless" our Australorp/Ameracauna mix. I noticed about a week ago that his beak is severely crooked and seems to be getting worse. Does anyone have any experience with this or have a grown chicken with it? How well will he survive? And yes it's a roo.
