    Help for Miss Buff please...

Whew...that was a chore! The last time I chased a chicken was when I was a kid...that was a very long time ago...lol! I applied the neosporin and noticed the area was a bit puffy but firm...not soft. The white pustules seemed to be below the surface and not oozing...about pea sized.

More like pimples I guess...haven't felt them yet...I will when I treat her with the neosporin. Didn't have any mackerel around so I gave them some sardines...they love 'em! Lol...

    Help for Miss Buff please...

Thanks...we have some Neosporin...I will treat it today. My wife has been giving her plain yougurt with meal worms as well...kind of a weird combo but she loves it...as do the others. :)

    Help for Miss Buff please...

I will have to wait for the Blu-Kote to wear off before taking another pic...I snapped this one before applying more. She was not injured that I am aware of. The area is red and raw with white pustules that look like grains of rice...kinda bumpy.

    Help for Miss Buff please...

I have been treating what looks like raw hamburger meat on one of our Buffs for a few days now with Blu-Kote with no positive results. Any ideas what this may be?

Added a run to our dog kennel coop...

Our flock is 11 weeks old today so I gave them a little more room to run. The run measures 4'H x 6'W x 30'L. I plan to clip their wings in a few weeks to keep them from flying out of the run. We have been letting them have free run of the backyard but the ammount of poo they leave on the...

Comment by 'JD McGee' in article 'How To Clip Trim The Feather Wings Of Your Chicken To Prevent Flight'

Great article...we free range our flock in the backyard from 4pm (when I get home from work) until they return to the coop to roost. We would free range them all day but there are too many eagles, hawks, coyotes, cats, and such in our area. I will be clipping their wings in a few months as they...

Comment by 'JD McGee' in article 'What To Do With Unwanted Cockerels'

We are in the same situation...we have a Rooster in our flock that needs a good home. The feed store will take him...but we know where he will end up...lol! Our city ordinance does not allow Roosters...but our neighbors have one and no one seems to mind. I have talked with our neighbors as well...

Looks like one of my Buff Orpington chicks is a Rooster...

His wings are different(a lot longer) and his tail feathers point up instead of down like all the other chicks. I am assuming at this point but he is so very different it seems logical...

Looks like one of my Buff Orpington chicks is a Rooster...

Roosters are not permitted for backyard coops where I live...any ideas on where to find him a good home locally? He will be 5 weeks old Monday and is in excellent health. Cheers! JD
