    I'm trying something new (incubating)

I have successfully hatched eggs in my incubator since day 1 that are notorious for being very hard to hatch. I think the key is, is to imitate nature the best as possible. I lay my eggs down and the type of turner I have, rolls them. I also start daily cooling after a week of incubation, I do...

    Northern Pintail Incubation- They've hatched!

Well, I've had these pintail eggs in my bator since day 1. Three have hatched on day 23 and two beginning to zip now on day 24. I wasn't expecting them to hatch this early. Didn't have time to remove the turner and add my non slip material inside. They are so tiny! I've just hatched out geese so...

    Starlings!

Ugh... I hate starlings. They push our native birds out of their nests and take over. They are so destructive and aggressive. I'd say it's possible the mites came from them. Wild birds can carry lots of yucky stuff. Just try to keep the feed cleaned up the best you can or relocate it somehow to...

    Chicks not hatching. Very gooey

I believe it's from too much humidity, during incubation and hatching. I've noticed when eggs don't lose enough weight and their air cell's are too small, they get really gooey and sticky.

    problem.... are they still okay?

They'll definitely be fine. When I receive shipped eggs, I usually sit them upright and not turn them whatsoever for 3-4 days. They hatch just fine!

    Air bubble on side

Are they shipped eggs? This can happen from eggs getting jostled around. Almost every shipped egg I've received had their air cells ruptured or on the sides of the egg. I usually stand them upright for half of their incubation, then lay them down. Most of them hatch. As long as the air cell gets...

Hatching Canadian geese eggs and worried. Please Help.

Yes, I completely understand. I have farm raised pintails in my incubator getting ready to hatch, hopefully! I'd like to try Canada geese someday (legal ones of course). I'm starting to dabble into the wild/exotic waterfowl. Sometimes hatches do fail. It takes a couple tries. You'll learn as you...

Hatching Canadian geese eggs and worried. Please Help.

From what I've heard, Canada geese incubation period is usually 28 days. I'm sure it can vary. They can wiggle many days before actually hatching. Are you absolutely sure they aren't moving? Watch each one to be sure. I'd give it a little while yet. Sometimes it's hard to catch them moving.

    Quail twins?

I've had fertile, doubled yolk eggs before. Ducks, quails and chickens. Though, they never made it to hatch day. I'm sure it's possible, but probably pretty rare. You would definitely need to assist on hatching them if they do make it that far.

    Setting Quail Eggs

I'm hoping to set 20 Gambel quail eggs in my incubator tomorrow. Though it's not a homemade incubator. I'm too lazy to build one lol

Anyone want to help me figure out how I killed my chicks?

Yes, I agree. Sometimes you can even smell that stale incubated egg smell when you open the bator, even when you have a fan. I always keep most of my vents open on my bators. Eggs expirate carbon dioxide and waste. And check to make sure the air cells are large enough for them to hatch. They...

Is it just me, or are ducks trickier than chickens?

Are you misting and cooling the duck eggs? That boosts hatch rates. There are some extra care to waterfowl eggs vs chickens.

    The BEST INCUBATOR???

I second the brinseas. Look into the octagons. I got tired of fiddling around with my LG and just bought some brinseas and LOVE them. They do their job, that's for sure.
