    First Eggs :-)

Anything they do involving first eggs I've learned is somewhat normal! One of my girls laid two eggs her first day (we had a tiny egg binding scare so she was a bit backed up). As for it being the size of a chicken egg, that is pretty normal as well. I was a bit sad because I thought my breeds...

    Duck for laying

**as I finished typing this post, I looked up to notice my above mentioned runner in my garden, happily eating/ravaging my tomatoes. I may retract my post about the perks of runners. Sigh.

    Duck for laying

My vote is for indian runner, but as my runner and rouen are the first I've raised, I might just be parshal... Since mine started laying, she hasn't missed a day yet, and even layed (laid?) two her second day! I just wish the Rouen would finally start, as they are both 24 weeks old. The other...

    Ovaduct problem?

Has she been laying normally up until now? If so, has she missed more days than usual? (It's better to be safe and observant in my opinion, but I'm a chronic worrier over my ducks.)

    Duck farting (yes I know)

It's why the term 'duck fart' exists, haha. He's fine, just lacking in social manners like most animals, children and husbands ;)

Getting to know these new ducks

If you get a chance, you could check a local feed store for dried mealworms? It would closely resemble what they forage for and still be considered a treat? Mix a few in with their feed and they should start figuring it out. You are so sweet to want to give them a better life! A trick I play...

    Whose got DUCK Eggs?

My runner and rouen started laying their first ever eggs 5 days ago. They have been very polite, making sure I get at least one egg a day and am up to six! This is my first ever duck (or any feathered friend) owning experience and each morning when I find an egg it's like a birthday present...

    Bad News

If you are a light sleeper, the baby monitor is a great idea! My ducks are super quiet at night, so any quacking means something out of the ordinary is going on. If it is not too much of a pain, and if you can find one inexpensive enough, maybe look into getting a motion detected flood light...

    the quacking

Some ducks are just suuuuuper vocal. My rouen is a reasonably quiet girl. My 22 week indian runner on the other hand, is a talker. She just laid her first egg yesterday, as well as another today, and wierdly it is the first time she has been a bit more polite about her quacking. She...

    A really weird question

Thanks Miss Lydia! Wonderful news, someone (I think it was Amazing Larry) laid her very first egg this morning!!! This community is great, so much info, experience to draw on. Yay!

Ducks: All things cute and funny!

Both of my ducks, a 22 week rouen female and a 22 week black india runner female, are really fond of what we like to call 'duck yoga.' When they sleep, they do so standing, with one leg tucked up onder them like a flamingo. Upon waking, they stretch the tucked under leg straight back while...

    Share your duck pictures here!

These are my very first ducks. Large Marge, 22 week female Rouen and Amazing Larry, 22 week female black india runner. They have their very own paddle pool/duck pond, but I also like to leave several buckets full of fresh water around the yard for beak cleaning while on their foraging...

    A really weird question

Oh thank god! My duck was doing the exact same thing. I have been stalking the internet, worried about my female india runner. Everything I could find said vent gleet, prolapse, egg binding . . . None of it seemed quite right. She has been healthy and happy, just . . . leaking. Not the awful...
