Peaches,Sweet Pea, Duckie, and little Man enjoy their pool and let us know when it isn't full enough. Hubby put a drain plug in bottom of side (works great) and they are enjoying the play pen, Soon will have a permanent house built for them, for now "Duck Tractor" it is. Between them and meat...
Thanks, guess I was worried about mold also, but think with this heat there won't be a problem and next post (placing a brick in a pan...think I will use a boot mat ...will do the trick so our wood chips don't get slopping wet.
my hubby just put chicken nipples into a five gallon bucket to use to water our layers, works great, except under where hanging there is wet spot in coop from where chickens dribble water from drinking...does anyone have this problem and how did you solve it? Thanks. (the nipples aren't...
really nice, we need to make a permanent duck house, right now tarps are covering them at night and providing some shade during daytime depending how we position them.
came home from town and dh went to fill our three week old pullets and they had knocked over the small plastic mason jar like feeder and bottom had seperated from the red plastic with holes for them to eat feed. So picking it up he noticed something in it and lo and behold a chicks butt is...
our grandchildren named our four pekins with their own nick names we had given each of them, but now at 8wks there is only one 'peaches" that we can tell the difference, since his/her beak is lighter than the others. guess we should of banded them, but we let the kids say who is who...don't...
lifelites is combination of vitamins and electrolytes. been giving the apple cider vinegar all along. they had some peas and small dices of apple but that was last week. No grit , should we be giving them some at 8wks? If so how much? they went swimming in kiddie pool last week but it has...
one of our 8wk. old pekin's is hardly walking or waddling funny and watery diarrhea other three ducks are fine. read could lack niacin..is this from drug store and if so what amount. eyes are clear but like I said she mostly just lays down, feet and legs look ok, other ducks cluster around...
we have four 8wk. old pekin's . we used the chicken (mason jar) type waterer when they were real little. Now we use a small dishpan (type they give in hospital) so they can wash their eyes and vents out, and have the large chicken waterer available also.
one of (4) our 8wk, old pekins is acting listless, hardly walking around, and waddles funny tail feathers and breast stained, looks like had diarrhea. she is still eating and drinking. Got some "lifelites" and mixed some of that in all their water and made sure she/he (still can't tell sex of...
so glad I asked...and thanks all for the feedback...guess they will continue with finely chopped apples and peas as treats and I will get a ball (no bell in since I worry they could possibly ingest that if ball broke (I got the nervous nellie thing too :-) , My dh says...they are "ducks" you...
I am considering coring an apple and hanging it in duck pen, thought it might be entertaining along with treat for our four peking's. Being new to raising ducks thought I would check if this is ok for them. I know the seeds are bad so will core it, they are about six weeks old.
we have four pekin's that we got about the week after Easter. One is peeping and it's bill is almost a pale pinkish color s we really are hoping that we have three females and this one is a male. Figure we are just going to have to watch close since we would'nt want three males to one.
a friend said you can tell sex of duck by bill color, three ducks have dark yellowish/orange bill and one is a pale pinkish color. So does anyone know if this is true and which color is which sex , since my friend couldn't remember which sex was suppose to be what color :-) we are sure...
Ok, watched the video on u-tube, but our ducks are abut 5 wks. and I would'nt want to stress the poor babies at my bungling attempt at trying to sex them that way. So dh and I tried listening to who was making the honking/qwack noise :-) they all sound loud at times, tails don't look...
