When do Easter Eggers start laying?

I have two EEs that are 27 weeks old - no eggs yet and it's driving me batty! All my other girls (New Hampshires, Delaware, Dominiques) have been laying for a few weeks...it's so hard to wait for that first colored egg!

Need to get rid of FLYS!!! they are constantly on the chickens and ducks food. Any ideas?

This is probably a stupid question - but how much DE are y'all talking when you say "I sprinkle/use it everywhere" - Is it a dusting or a full on layer, etc? Newbie here - go easy on me!

Two definite roos with 12 girls(hopefully) - ok or no way?

Eeekkk! I was using the 4sqft per bird rule that I had read elsewhere on BYC forum, and three are bantams so I thought I was ok with room to spare. I was pretty sure we would need to rehome one of the roos though, but wanted confirmation. Useful info as far as space that I did not mention -...

Going Out of Town in 100 Degree Weather

Can you add some shade to the enclosed run? Even a tarp or something could help - the difference between sun and shade can be substantial, so I would make sure plenty of shade in run area along with extra water. If you wanted, you could also do an electrolyte drink along with the water to help...

Two definite roos with 12 girls(hopefully) - ok or no way?

We have 14 chickens - 3 New Hampshires, 3 Dominiques, 4 Easter Eggers, 1 Delaware and 3 Cochin Bantams. They are all around 7-8 weeks old. We just moved them from the brooder to their 8'x10'x4' coop. Of the bunch, we have two definite Roosters - one Dominique and one Easter Egger. The EE has...

    I am in denial

Is that true of Dominique's as a whole? We have three 6 week old Dominiques, two have more black than white and the one with more white also has a slightly larger comb...probable roo?

    We got our Chicks today!

Mine are all between 3-4 weeks old...we have started giving them fresh veggie scraps/leftovers to eat. They spend the day in the brooder, but when I get home from work - we put them out in a 6x6 'play pen' that my extremely supportive hubby rigged up for me. Outside play time is a HUGE hit -...

Awww bloonskiller911! Those lil fluffballs are too cute Mudhen - I LOL at mine quite frequently. Some of them are WAY too smart for their own good...I can see them contemplating things and 'figuring' out how to jump to the sides of the brooder to roost

POLL: Chickens - easier, same or harder then you thought, once you got them?

This thread has proved VERY insightful! We are getting our butts in gear for a coop build and have found BYC to be an eternal source of information - and yes, at times an information overload. We are trying to be as cost effective as possible and found inspiration in the recycled pallet coop...
