My local supermarket has brown eggs selling much cheaper than the white eggs.
My thought is they are slower selling and get a price break because of the reasoning of posts above...
The brown egg has something wrong with it, it's unclean, etc. So it's not in high demand at retail. Crazy!
Was talking to a local guy about my chickens and overall I thought he knew a thing or two about raising livestock as he's had rabbits, chickens, guinea hens, etc.
So I tell him I don't have a rooster and don't plan to get one. I said how lots of people think you need a rooster to get eggs from...
Oh, that's your brother!!?!
I was trying to figure out how in the world you got a pix of my Ex-Mother-in-Law on your game cam!
That explains it! The resemblance is really amazing!
Been finding conflicting info from books and people who raise and sell poultry so I am continuing research.
'Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens' (page 103) says for Layers 0-6 weeks (starter) give 18-20% protein.
- Layers 6-14 weeks (grower) give 16-18% protein.
Thanx for your info!
Somehow I have one more chicken than I previously posted.
Another Ameraucana followed me home! How did that happen?
O.K., 8 chicks! That's it, I'm done (for now)!
Great thread! I had heard that about raccoons and Pepsi years ago and totally forgot about it! When I first moved to where I am now I saw a Fisher (or what I thought was a Fisher) eating composted corn cobs. Now that I have started a small chicken flock I hope that Fisher has moved on and is...
The guy is having a hatch in 1 1/2 weeks (his own flock) and it's straight run, and they go fast. I didn't ask how many eggs he has in the 'bator. Is there a way to sex them early? Things I can look for?
Also I don't think he ships.
Just have to announce, it's official, we now have our very own little flock of chickens! Yay!
I have 3 Black Sex Links, 2 Barred Rock and 2 Ameraucana.
They are a week old and doing great!
I'm looking to add a Mille Fleur d'uccle Bantam in about a week and a half. After that I will start...
The Baltimore Oriole is a very pretty bird, usually way high up in a tree and harder to spot. But if it's nesting try to see the nest because they are 'weavers'. They weave a hanging basket nest for their nest. Nice to see when you get a glimpse!
The DEC does not allow you to relocate wildlife without a permit so be discreet about your capture and release of wildlife. I know because when I moved where I am now I had a red squirrel infestation. The previous owner liked to feed the local wildlife shelled peanuts by just leaving piles of...
Since I am building a coop (and almost complete) I'd be willing and able to give 1 roo and up to 8 extra girls you may have a kind, caring home in the Catskills. As I am nearly broke and my gf just recently lost her job I can't even offer to pay shipping. If I can help by taking some, let me know.
Flea infestation can give a kitten/ cat anemia. Too many baths may be also give the cat a chill if she's in a weakened condition. A flea comb is great and dip the comb in rubbing alcohol to kill trapped fleas and dump them in the liquid. Combing with rubbing alcohol worked for me and my two...
If you sell out - take orders! Or hand out printed sell sheets where they can place follow-up orders, web site, name, address, etc.
Maybe one piece should be reserved as one you don't sell so you continue to show it and take orders for more. My two cents.
