Aw, what cute chicks!!! After the fox got my two favorites, we decided to order some chicks, even though I swore we wouldn't get any this year. So now you all have me looking forward to my delivery in two weeks! And then, my SIL asked if I could take her chickens, so we are going to be...

GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

Aw, so cute!! I love the pictures!! I'm still on goose watch to see if any of ours hatch. It's been really fun watching how the geese take turns with the nest- even the males. I didn't realize that they did that, but it seems like everyone has a turn, and they really take their job seriously.

GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

Thanks for that... I will try that. I've been so frustrated, knowing I need to look at it, but not knowing how to get the little monster to cooperate. Because of course, he's the meanest one and the most afraid of humans.

GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

Yeah, I thought about that, but he is so human shy, I can't get close enough to find out. :(

Wow!! Exciting progress!! You guys almost have me brave enough to try hatching one of these days. Sad news on our mountain... a fox killed my two favorite chickens this morning. SO heartbroken right now. Trying to figure out what to do with my remaining chicken in that coop. She's lost her two...

GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

Thanks. He's left the rest of the eggs alone, so hopefully it was just a one-time thing. I've kept my eye on him. I wonder if Mama Goose had enough of it too, because he's limping today.

So true!! It's been fun enjoying winter weather in our new house... at least it was the first few times. But now we're over it, and so are our chickens. The run on the one coop caved in with the last big snow (we had two feet), but with the Mr. Fox sighting, I'm not letting them out unless I'm...

Thanks for the pond advice... yes, you guys are right. I totally wasn't thinking about the avian flu. :( And very cool bee pics!! We want bees. Our friend made us a nice hive, but up here in the foothills, we were warned about bears. So now we have to figure out how to make the hive secure and...

GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

Weird question... Today one of the male geese took an egg out of the nest and was trying to eat it. This is the first time I saw him do something like that, and I chased him away and took the egg away. I'm wondering if maybe it was a dud egg and he knew it, so he was destroying it. Or do I need...

Oh, that's so sad. That's what I'm afraid of... I have friends in Washington whose ducks mingled with the wild ducks, and the wild ducks ended up joining their flock! I'm just not sure how often they turn out good versus bad. :(

Good ideas! I will try them. I let the birds free range during the day, and they are so fast to get out of the swamp. Poor birds. :(

    Moving geese to pond?

Too cute!!! I'm definitely liking the sound of this!! So what about wild birds? I was out earlier than usual this morning and noticed two wild ducks on one of the ponds. Will that be an issue for my birds? I think we're going to build an enclosure for them near the ponds that's...

Wow!! Look at all those eggs!! I'm having an interesting time of things with the birds I inherited. I think I mentioned when we bought this house, the people living here asked if we would be willing to keep their birds, since they couldn't take theirs with them and they knew I had chickens. I...

GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

Question about my soon to be goslings... I got a quick peek at the nest today, and I realized that Mama Goose is also sitting on chicken eggs. Are they similar in incubation time? And if/when the eggs hatch, how are the geese going to feel about chicks and goslings? Wow... this little "sure...

    Moving geese to pond?

Good to know, thanks! We were planning on building them a safe place at night. I don't think we have snapping turtles here. The previous owners told us a lot about the local wildlife, but did not mention the turtles. I know the pond has salamanders, because he told us to make sure we went and...

Inherited with new house chickens, ducks and geese!

Cool, thanks! I will take a look as soon as I can get close enough. These white ones are super skittish.
