Well... I have come to grips with the fact that my chickens have tapeworms and none of the prior dewormers have remedied the problem. After using Wazine17 and discovering it only kills certain adult worms, I used SafeGuard, which I discovered doesn't kill tapeworms. Then I dosed twice with...
Do you know if it's possible to buy Valbazen in smaller quantities? Like I said, I only have 5 hens, and with all the different things I've tried, those five hens are getting very expensive. I don't need a bottle large enough to dose 450 birds!
Also, I administered the Zimectrin Gold once, and...
I'm thinking I should try getting a vet to identify the worms first before I but anything. Maybe I'm just treating these things with the wrong ingredient! Too bad that Valbazen doesn't come in smaller quantities. It says it treats 450 birds - I only have 5 chickens!
Kathy, have you tried this on your own chickens? I'm pretty sure I have the worms narrowed down to tapeworms. But I thought the zimectrin gold treated tapeworms and I'm still having the same problems even after two doses of z-gold. I hate to keep spending my money on products that aren't working...
I feel completely beaten! I dewormed my hens with zimectrin-gold horse dewormer, then re-dosed ten days later. For two or three weeks I haven't noticed any worms in the droppings, but now they are back!!! What is a person to do to get rid of these things????? If anyone can help me out here...
Thanks. I will give the z-gold a try. How do you know when you've gotten ride of the worms? When you don't see them in the manure anymore?
Also, is there anything I should do to the soil, or do I need to pick up the wormy manure? I want to add some DE to my chicken yard as well as ash once we...
After more research, it's looking like I'm dealing with tapeworms, because the worms I'm seeing look exactly like those in the picture you posted. So, I guess I buy Zimectrin-Gold, dose my hens, then do it again 10 days later. Do I withhold feed to make the dewormer more potent to the worms? And...
First, thank you very much for your advice! I've never dealt with this problem before.
Next, I started out with the Wazine to prepare my chickens for a stronger dewormer, which I followed up with by using SafeGuard 10 days later. But it's been 14 days now since SafeGuard dosage, and some of my...
Hi everyone,
I've been checking around various threads about deworming, but I haven't come across any that have had problems with worms after all the deworming hassle. I discovered my chickens had worms, dewormed them with Wazine17, waited 10 days (threw out all the eggs ) dosed them with...
Yesterday I was shocked to find that one of my hens had worms. She was six years old, not laying anymore, and by the time I figured out what was going on, it was too late to remedy. She passed away in the night and has been taken care of. But what about my other six hens? None of them are acting...
My Buff Orpington hen named Penny is in need of some cleaning. Because of her fluffy feathers on her rear, she has, ahem, chicken guano stuck to her feathers. As it is rather built up (because she absolutely hates to be touched back there) and knowing that chickens do not enjoy water, does...
The problem sorted itself out in a way. I eased back on specially treating Roberta to food, hoping that she would get down on her own and eat. The problem was that the other girls left her alone until she started panicking and drawing their attention. Then they went after her. I started shutting...
Will there be any other short story contests coming up? I have a chicken-themed story that I think would be fun, but it is not about hatching chicks. I've never had the opportunity to hatch chicks, but it is a dream for the future!
Okay, so it's been about two months since Bertie (Roberta) the hen came to live with us. All of my hens but two can coexist with her, but my two other girls are determined to attack her. Even after being around her for two months, they aren't any better with her! Bertie basically lives on the...
No, she hasn't. I've only just had her for about five days.I should put her in another area if I can. To all appearances she looks healthy, but I know that doesn't mean she's 100% safe to my other hens. : (
My new hen (her name is Roberta) has been by herself for the most part. I fenced part of the chicken pen just for her, and at night she sleeps in a box in the chicken house. Roberta has not eaten or drunk anything from the dishes that the others do - she has her own separate dishes. She has come...
I have seven hens and just recently took in another one who needed a home. She was being attacked at her old home, and the people couldn't keep up with looking after her, so I am trying to incorporate her into my flock. However, this is my first time introducing a full-grown hen to the other...
