    Sick Chick?

Hi Azygous and Derry Farm, So sorry I am so late getting back to you both. It has been a bit crazy and I am just getting back to the computer. (I can't do the cell phone thing....fat fingers) Well...all things are well here. I have come to the conclusion that the little one I...

    Sick Chick?

Oh. One more thing. She scratches both sides of her head more often than the others do. But I have not seen mites and I can't imagine they would come from the hatchery with mites??? ~Missa

    Sick Chick?

Thank-you both for the quick responses. I have Corid in the house and I try to get hubby to pick up some nutri-drench (we are quite a ways out of town) She does appear smaller than the rest of them and her eyes look sleepy, so she may be younger than the others, Not a lot of energy. So...

    Sick Chick?

Little Chick 4 days old. Sleeps most of the time. Does not seem to run with the other 9. Seems slightly unbalanced when she does walk Every hour I look in the chick pen and she is sleeping. ALL the others may be running around or eating like little piglets or scrapping over a piece of...

HYPOTHETICAL DISCUSSION: What to feed your chickens when we can't buy chicken feed anymore

I'm back here to ask what people who live in north would do for their chickens in the winter....when it's ten or twenty below.....they will not leave the coop (they aren't stupid) and they need calories to stay warm. Summers I would free-range, but winter is a challenge where we live.

    Poultry pasture seed

Never bumped a thread before but there's a first time for many things. (not everything...can't do that.) I ordered this today. Seems they've cleaned up their act as far as their website goes. Shipping still steep I think, but I have two mud baths out there that I want to turn back to...

HYPOTHETICAL DISCUSSION: What to feed your chickens when we can't buy chicken feed anymore

I'm going to try to revive this discussion, but I believe the hypothetical could rather be the very probable. This idea of putting leaves and composting materials into the run sounds very feasible. Easy of any of us to do. Many of us on these sites do not have fields of grain,corn.etc...

chicken hen saddles / aprons / diapers / harnesses -great prices check them out! 2

I have been looking for 'lovemychix' here and anywhere else I can find and have not been able to find her! I PM'd her as well. Have tried other chicken diapers and Tess's are by far the best. I hope she is still making them but, unless she has changed her name, she has not posted in awhile...

HYPOTHETICAL DISCUSSION: What to feed your chickens when we can't buy chicken feed anymore

Well, I have learned you can't spoil them. Mine get fermented feed every day now....or starve. And believe me, they won't starve. I do find it takes them some time to catch on to new things...like that cabbage hanging in the winter coop. But it only takes one "pioneer" to get the rest on the...

Poop board convert *warning-graphic/gross poop pictures*

Just popping into one of my favorite threads. (I think about this thread every day as I scoop the poop in the coop every morning) This morning a thought occurred to me that I don't remember hearing a comment about: Does anyone think that the PDZ or other zeolite product under the roost might...

Can't belive it but...I got a little tear or two when I looked at that last pic. What an amazing rooster was your Trousers.....and a fabuous name you gave him. Your birs'ds' names tell me you have a sense of humor like mine!

Thanks, you guys, both 'down under' and 'up over'. Will let you all know how this pans out. She seems fine for now. Her peck is strong! She's sweet but ya gotta keep your distance.

She seems to be fine all day today. Have not palpated her crop today because it bothers her. Hoping for the best and that's that. Thanks for the encouragement.

Thank-you! That is very comforting, NCase. I sort of came to it last night...that I just need to relax and let her be. Have done bumblefoot surg but never sutured.....yet. Did look at that link last night. You know, my husband pointed out to me this morning that I tend to get a kind of...

I can feel it in her little crop. It's not gold. It's the cheap anti-allergenic kind. My fault. It's the post of the earring I'm worried about for her. I have 36 chickens and of course she's the pet. Hand-raised and tame as can be. That's why she got the opportunity to be so close. Forgot I...

It's so much fun to keep checking into this thread and see how folks are catching on to the great ideas here. Now I just can't imagine life without zeolite poop boards! LOL Only chicken people would understand that. To keep the granules from running out between the cracks I put some strong...

    Best scenario for my broody?

WOW.....what beautiful place to live! I dropped in to your bog-spot. Nice job. You are so gifted and organized. Lovely work. Well, I am still waiting on my worms. I'm starting off with the one bin method for now. Can't wrap my brain around anything too complicated for the time being...

    Best scenario for my broody?

Hi Donna Lynn! I went looking for you and here you are, having broody issues, too! (I mean your chicken, not you.... ) Quarantined her when I got some fertile eggs. When the first chick pipped the shell, my broodie (Nancy) just tore into the shell, damaging the chick's vent area. She was...
