Hey fellow BYC-ers!
I always puruse this website and the forums to look at cute pics of chicks and chickens to go "awwwwww" and I've finally decided that I should start an instagram dedicated to chickens and chicken lovers world wide! The main objective on this instagram is purely to share the...
My 2 SLW bantams at just over 2 weeks old, already have lots of feathering coming through on their wings, chest and tails. I have a feeling they are both roo's but I'm putting out the good vibes for girls! I've added in a little practice roosting perch and they love it! So fun to watch them at...
My 2 silved laced wyandotte bantams.
Pics on the left were taken today at just over a week old, pics on the right only a few days old.
I have a bet on that the lighter coloured one (standing on the left) is a rooster. Let's see what happens when they get older!
Ps/ my pooch is not 100%...
One of mine on my very first hatch ever hatched perfectly fine, whereas the other pipped upside down, then seemed to dry out inside the shell. Gave it almost 24hrs before I intervened and just slowly picked away at the shell every hour or so until I was sure it was ready, just stuck. Didn't see...
I am currently trying my hand at hatching 3 SL Wyandotte bantams with a rented rcom
Incubator. I haven't done a huge amount of research on incubators, the whole thing sounds scary and so easy to mess up but this one is fully automated even turns the eggs itself. Just have to top up the water...
Here's a pic of my brooder....for 2 chicks, they've got 9 more days in the incubator before the hatch (fingers crossed!)
I based it on one of the ones I saw in the brooder design section of this website, so hopefully it works a treat!
I'm brand brand new to raising chicks, so any advice...
Thanks for all the advice guys. I will definitely read up on those posts you suggested. I'll also put up a few photos if I can get some clear ones of her. I'll also try the pain killers and special diet for her and see how she fares. Photos to come.
Hi everyone
I have trawled the forums but I can't find anything that really directly relates to my situation so sorry if this is a bit repetative.
A few weeks ago, maybe a month or so ago I went out to the chicken coop and saw a whole bunch of feathers, no blood, no flesh but noticed one of...
Hello Fellow Chicken Keepers!
I'm still a newbie at chicken keeping and I have a couple of questions regarding food.
I have 3 pekin bantams - I got them when they were 8-10weeks old and I fed them "Barastoc" pullet grower.
Now they are around 20 weeks and they've been on "Barastoc"...
Henny Penny is good! She's running around like normal now..... I have no idea what was wrong with her... I'm suspect of a vitamin deficiency. I definately thought she was on deaths door when I found her upside down a few times. How is your chook that was exhibiting the same symptoms?
Henny Penny update,
So we've had Henny in isolation for just under a week now and I've noticed some improvement!
She's been standing up a lot more in her box so I decided today to take her outside to see if she can walk....and she can! She's still a little bit unsteady but she's walking around...
@leadwolf1 - that's terrible :-(
I really just want to have some idea of how long I should let her continue on like this. Should I wait 1 week, 2 weeks, a month? before I think about her quality of life and perhaps get her put down? I just don't have any idea on a time scale that I should...
Hi Everyone,
Update on Henny Penny the pekin bantam. She's still alive!
She's been inside now for 4 days. We took her out of her hospital box last night and put her on a towel to see if she could walk. She had enough strength to stand up, but when she tried to walk her legs just didnt...
Ok, so my partner went to the pet shop and they didnt have specific poultry vitamins but he spoke to them and they gave us AVI-VITE, it seems to have all the standard vitamins in there (A, B, D, E).
It's in her water so hopefully she drinks it tomorrow when she's awake.
Should I be trying to...
PS - she does have diarrhea, but I wouldnt say its very green, more a dark colour.
Haven't noticed any scaley combs or anything, she generally looks very healthy and is still eating and drinking like a champion.
