Eagles will carry the food away... Hawks on the other hand... Crush it right there than eat it right there... & yes they eat all the breast first, than move on to the innards...
So it was likely a hawk, it will be back.. & sooner rather than later.. You can however hang CDs shinny tinfoil bits...

I would clip all the feathers back off the area around the hole maggots only eat dead flesh..
Get a dousing syringe a big one, wrap her up on your counter & start cleaning them out. Flush the wound over & over. Get tweezers & pick em out..

Hi all... My beautiful Ariee didn't make it...
She pooped & then everything I had fed her just came right back up, she was barely able to open her eyes following that, she was suffering, the hardest choice ever to make.. But I loved her so it was the kindest.
I had to put her down last night...
