Same thing happened to one of my 7 wk old Orp chicks. Her toes were frozen solid but not white. After bringing her in and letting them thaw yesterday, she has blisters and both feet are very swollen. I soaked them in warm water with epsom salts, applied neosporin, then loosely wrapped with gauze...
Question on generation...My hen is from eggs from BethG's lav project. Is she 2nd gen, and the new chicks 3rd?
Also, what is the purpose of crossing in the English Orps?

LOL, I actually did make them fleece coats. I wasn't going to pay $100+ to order them. I also have a Whippet. They really do well during the winter except when it -15 or colder...then they would rather stay in bed.
I'll be moving to CO once I get the house sold so they'll think they're...
So, I thought Vivian was a fox casualty a few weeks ago when she disappeared. She had other plans and was sitting on 12 eggs. I found her hiding place almost two weeks later and brought her inside as it's starting to freeze at night.
About a week later, around Oct 3-4....
Orpingtons! 6 black...
My newest momma, Vivian, just hatched 10 eggs about 3-4 days ago. Poppa is my black split roo, Bert the Conquerer.
She disappeared on me for almost 2 weeks before I found her...thought she was the latest fox victim. Brought her and the eggs in when I finally found her hide out and about a week...
So, about 3 1/2 wks ago my only lavender Orpington pullet, Vivian, disappears. I'm thinking the fox we've had problems with earlier in the summer was back and now I'm on a mission...the fox WILL die.
For the next week or so, everytime the chickens fussed about something I'm running outside...
I think it has a lot to do with the individual bird and their temperment, and I don't think it hurts to handle them as much as possible. My two best roosters were a Silver Dorking, lost him to a fox last year, and currently a huge, 1 yo, 10 lb Blue Orpington. Both boys were handled as much as I...
I've lost 2 ducks and 2 pullets. They've all been taken in the early afternoon. Lost the most recent one just this afternoon about an hour after I let them out of the coop. He came with in 10-15 yards of the house to get her even with the dogs out. This time I saw it but couldn't get a good shot.
My Ibizan just finished her championship her last weekend in CA a couple of weeks ago then came home and took BOB all 3 days last weekend. My Whippet puppy got 2 RW and took WD and BOW on the last day under a very tough judge.
Well, something got the meat out of the trap without tripping it last night. Thought I heard some unusual noises about 4 this morning so went out and checked....empty trap-no bait.

Goat gestation is 150 days: 21 weeks plus 3 days ... give or take a few.
Not sure about that wax up thing ... don't know what that means. This is our first time we've experienced kidding. We got the doeling and her twin, the wether, when they were babies last spring, so she just...
