We lost a girl today she was 2 weeks old. I want to know if its something i should be concerned about for the other girls or if she just didn't make it because she was small or had internal problems? She was much much smaller than the rest of the chicks. she doesn't look like she has grown in a...
Sand? wouldn't that attract fleas and or mites even more? I am not answering your question just curious, sand could be great for keepin it clean, easy to scoop etc... but you would want to check out the sand flea thing and possibility of mites...
a duck... i actually thought about putting in a duck or a goose.. they are a bit more intimidating to predators maybe? or they warn ahead of time of danger?
Time to start fresh. We just ordered a mixture of pullets today! Hatcheries choice... Hopefully the give us an itemized list of the chicks we are getting. I am just so excited to see what kind of little babies we are getting! We will get the coop squared away Asap. As sad and heartbroken as i...
we don't but we should as our coop is not right next to our home... its a little jaunt down into the field. which I feel a bit guilty about now after the "masacre".
it was racoons, judging by the scat that they left behind... How they got in I HAVE NO IDEA.... i guess i'll have to get more and start over now... just comb over every inch until i find the weak spot...poor girls :(
we lost or 25 girls last night...something had chewed its way in. It was a very very small hole any ideas what it could have been? ate some slaughtered most. Very sad
ok, thank you! Just got our Chicks yesterday and i woke up every two hours to checkon them and stared at them most of the day to make sure nothing funny was going on... my husband and I are first timers and I want them ALL to make it. They are the cutest and sweetest babies I have ever seen!
How do I know if I am over feeding my chicks? should I take their food away? If it sits there they just eat and eat until they look like they are going to explode. I don't want them to develop Ascites.
Great thanks! I have been such a worry wort. Yesterday we received the babies and I ended up waking up about every hour on the hour to run and check them!
Should we keep their food in the brooder all the time when they are only small babies or should we take it out at a certain time so they don't overfeed?
If it is 95 to 100 degrees outside and we have our chicks on an enclosed porch with lots of sun and lots of glass windows should we use the heat lamp during the day or ONLY at night? Keep in mind there are 25 chicks and they are being shipped to us as we speek so if i get them this afternoon...
Hello, I am expecting 25 comets in the mail today or tomorrow, we have pine wood chips for their brooder this will be our first attempt at raising chickens. What do you recomend to use for bedding in their nest boxes? Should we use hay or pine chips?
Thanks,
Elizabeth & Harley
