Later last night I helped the wrong end chick out. She seems a bit weak and she's a little gimpy on one leg but she's gaining strength and catching up to the others as the day goes on. She's interested in eating and doesn't hesitate to limp over to the food so I think this will work itself out.
Thanks! That's where we are now. The last of them hatched this morning except the wrong end chick. She's still hanging in there but she wasn't ready for help earlier so I'm watching closely.
I'm really happy to have 6 of 7 right now. I'd incubated shipped eggs in the past with low results...
I'm happy to report that all 7 pipped today on day 23. One has pipped the wrong end so I don't know how that will go but the others are looking good right now.
Yes, Ive used it once before. It's a Brinsea mini...pretty reliable. Ive always had hatches start on day 21 as well (I haven't done this much though and only once before in this bator). I'm thinking maybe it's running a bit cooler causing a delay.
It's day 22 and the chicken eggs were all viable at lockdown. I see the eggs moving but no external pips yet. What's the latest you've had a hatch start? Any words of wisdom you'd like to share?
Thanks!
Thank you all for responding. I decided to let nature take its course and so far, all is fine. The mature rooster is very protective of them (not towards me) so he seems to have a good handle on the situation. The little one is doing well.
Hi All,
I've incubated and hatched chicks before but I've never had one hatch in my flock. Ive been vacationing and had a care taker caring for my animals. I got a call this morning that we have a chick. Apparently there are no other eggs so it'll just be this one. The momma chicken is staying...
Our little pipper hatched overnight; a cute buff looking baby. We have a new pip this morning. I realized day 21 didn't technically start until late evening yesterday so we're still doing okay on time. These do seem to be a bit slower though.
Day 20 and all is quiet. There's no sign of anything happening. The four I hatched last month came early (all pipped on 19 and hatched on 20) so naturally I'm anxious for this to get going!
I'm on day 19 with 10 Swedish Flower eggs in the bator. I hatched only 4 of 19 EEs last month (12 went into lockdown and 7 of those were definitely viable at lockdown with a few in question). I feel some of it was my fault because I wouldn't stop meddling and opening the bator during lockdown...
Count me in! Putting 19 EE (they said Ameraucana, but they're probably EEs) in the bator tonight. Hopefully we don't slide into the beginning of December!
I'm incubating six Cream Legbar eggs. This is the first time I've done this and it's so exciting for us. We definitely have one good egg that's viable as of right now (day 9). I know things may change and we may have none, or we may have more than one hatch when all is said and done. I just...
I've felt and pushed all over and haven't gotten an adverse reaction from her. She's come down from the coop and is in the run. She's staying in the back of the run at the furthest point from the gate but I'm glad to see her come back down. Five of my seven are 18 weeks old and were raised...
My kids accidentally let one of the chickens out while my Lab and my parents' Golden Retriever were in my back yard. They went after her but other than loss of some feathers she seems unharmed. She got stuck in some lattice trying to run under the house to escape the dogs. How my 8 year old...
Most hens don't lay every single day so odds are all of your hens are laying and your average is 5 eggs a day. There are some hens that take longer to mature though so it's possible you have one not laying. What breeds do you have?
Hi! Conroe here (just north of Houston). I have two RIR, 3 BR, 1 EE, and 1 bantam cochin x of some sort. Then there's the horses, dogs, cat, parrots, hamster lol.
