Talk to me about introducing new ducks to each other

A few weeks ago, our female died leaving our male duck Daffy all by himself. He is a khaki Campbell. Yesterday we were finally able to acquire ducks to keep Daffy company. 2 are Indian Runners and 1 Cayuga (in our estimation). Other than to quarantine them for a while, anything we need to...

    North to Alaska!

Looking for a female duck or looking to rehome our drake. His buddy just died. :( I live in the Kenai peninsula

Our daisy died. What do we do with daffy?

Thanks all. I am all the way in Alaska and have posted in the group pages to look for more ducks or to rehome him to someone who has ducks. My heart breaks for Daffy. Last year when a falcon attacked them and had Daisy pinned to the ground, he never left her side and kept flapping his wings on...

Our daisy died. What do we do with daffy?

Thank you. They are khaki Campbell's. doesn't seem like they could fly because they free range for a good part of the day. Amiga, you said it happens sometimes when they just die suddenly... What are the usual reasons? She'd been laying eggs this week so it's probably not that she's egg bound...

Our daisy died. What do we do with daffy?

Our female duck just died today. She seemed fine yesterday and when my husband went in to lock them up tonight, she was dead. No visible injuries. The drake and her were bonded. What should I do with the drake?

The drake is getting too aggressive

Thanks! I was hoping that its just a phase. We do have a portable chicken tractor that I can put the ducks in. (They're already in separate quarters when they get penned up at night)

The drake is getting too aggressive

He'd pin them down and some of my chickens now are looking like they have they have plucked feathers. I'm sure he had plucked feathers in because the chickens fight back.

The drake is getting too aggressive

I have 2 khaki Campbells, make and female along with 9 hens. All raised together since they were babies. They're over a year old now. They've been doing well together til sometime in the past 2 weeks or so when the drake has been attacking the chickens. Not wanting to Mate but just attacking...

Introducing new pullets to older chickens. When? How?

We have 5 Australorp hens that are over a year old right now. We started with nine. And gave 4 to friends. The 4 we gave away seemed to be the most henpecked ones (feathers missing on the head). We're babysitting 2 of the 4 that we gave away and as our friends dropped off the 2, there was...

Think it's too cold for your chickens? Think again...

9 Black Australorps in a 50 sqft insulated coop. Lowest temp we've had is about -20. Haven't added any supplemental heat yet.

Chickens dust bathing in their litter box

So my chickens have a litter box under their roosts that is filled with sand. The rest of the area has wood shavings in it. I clean up the litter box about every other day. However, I found them recently dust bathing in their litter box. They have an area outside for dust bathing but if its too...

    do falcons attack chickens?

We've had a gyrfalcon attack our duck and chicken, albeit unsuccessfully. There is also a peregrine falcon who was hanging out in one of our trees but we have fish net all over the run so that may have deterred it some

Pictures of winter waterers & how you handle?

With the buckets being kind of deep, how do your ducks actually get water from there at all?

Think it's too cold for your chickens? Think again...

Living in AK too. Chickens are in an insulated coop but have been going out at -10. Getting 7-9 eggs out of my 9. Not providing extra heat. Not sure how much extra feed they are consuming since it's our 1st yr with chickens.

    More talk about water freezing

But if you plug in the heater to a thermocube, would that work?

    ACV, fermented feed and antibiotics???

I think it's more likely that the antibiotics will kill the probiotics (from the ACV) in the water. Don't know much about chickens but when the humans in our house are on antibiotics, we make sure that we are on probiotics as well. If the same applies, it will be more beneficial for the chickens...

Think it's too cold for your chickens? Think again...

So apparently cold isn't a problem so much for our birds. They were hanging outside at -10. Snow however, is a different story. It's snowing right now and 26F and they will not go into their run. Do I kick them out so I can clean their coop or should I be thankful and consider this task for...

Will a Hawk Attack a Goose?

Wow that video sent shivers down my spine. I've strongly suspected that it was a gyrfalcon that attacked our ducks and chickens but at that time I was too panicky to really observe the bird that I was chasing away. And since its not very common in our area, I haven't seen it again. The video...

How does deep litter method work in sub-freezing temps?

About 4inches. You're right. I should probably increase it. At -20C, what is your inside coop temperature?
