Nothing like digging up a long forgotten thread from over 2 years ago!
It sounds like your duckling has the same problem as mine. I cant recommend taking her to the vet enough! I took mine there, they gave her some antibiotics and within about a week the wheezing stopped. Little ducklings are...
Yeah we were there when he pottered on over...Jump a clear 2 feet over the fence did his thing then left.
We spotted a new dog fox in the area the other day, absolutely monster of a size. Every other fox has looked at our fence and gone "nah mate not today, far to high!" but this beast leapt...
I really thought when she lay that huge healthy looking egg that we were heading in the right direction. I was already prepared for the worse because of the wound and knowing birds don't do well with shock but I'm still disappointed by the out come :(
I haven't been all to active here, but I told people if anything major happened with my ducks I would let people know.
Particularly because of my Abacot being a rare breed, people were interested in buying fertile eggs and just hearing about her as they hadn't had many opportunities to talk...
This isn't an advert but it may seem like one...But it's more a question of interest.
I currently have 1 Abacot Ranger and have been looking for some more but there doesn't seem to be any this side of the moon...Am I really the only person in Somerset that owns an Abacot :O
Actually as a...
I never had ducks until my Fiancee's parents turned up with them one day and said "You didn't tell us what you wanted for your birthday...So here's some ducks!"
Sorry for the late reply!
Patty (The Abacot) Has brown specs on her head but has the most beautiful blue feathers under her wings, its just a shame they were her flight feathers!
Selma (The Khaki) Has a very dark head but I suppose like most ducks it probably has a tiny to it in certain lights.
The ducks were a birthday present from my fiance's parents because I said "I don't know what I want" lol! The Abacot has always attracted attention on here. I didn't realise she was so special! I even had a message saying if she ever had fertile eggs how much would I be willing to sell them for...
Yeah, I just cleaned off the egg to try and work the misses camera and it is much whiter now I've looked more closely at it.
It's her egg so it is very small and seem abnormally heavy, is this normal?
I was thinking the same but having seen them out there in the stormy weathers and the frost we've been having lately has completely changed my mind.
My ducks in particular are loving it, they literally jump into the puddles and splash around, shake themselves off then carry on. Ducks have a...
I went out this morning to let all the animals up and in buried in the bedding of the duck house was a tiny little greenish egg.
I've looked around and I think it's the Khaki Campbell and not the Abacot. I'll upload a picture later if anyone would be willing to confirm this for me :)
Off the top of my head and on what I was told when they were brought to me...They are about 2-3 months old...Still the odd baby feather.
Had to clip their wings yesterday...Patty (The Abacot) had some beautiful bright blue feathers on her wings...Turns out they were the flight feathers...She...
Patty and Selma now live outside, as you can see she is much better now! They live next door to a pen with 4 chicken and a pen with 22 chickens...They quite regulatly hop over the fence to spend the day with the chickens...Found them trying to roost with them last night in their shelter so they...
