Thank you so much, that's a relief! We have had chickens for years but never introduced new chickens to our existing flock before. We just found we weren't getting enough eggs... so got more chickens! Thanks again!
Hi there fellow chicken lovers!
I recently introduced 3 ready to lay to my years old's and they are starting to get along but my old 3 are still being quite mean to the new 3.
They don't let them eat or drink when they are all in the coup so I have spread food around so that the new 3 can eat...
Hi Lazy Gardener!
Thanks so much for your reply! Yes my coup and run are huge so that's not a worry. But I don't have the space to quarantine them or keep them seperated for the first while. I guess we will just stick with the 3 that we have already.
Thanks for your help!
Hi All!
I was wondering if I would be able to introduce a new chicken to my hens without them killling her? I would like to get another breed and add her to my flock, I would get a ready to lay bird of course because I know my girls would kill a chick. I also know that they would show her...
Hey there fellow chicken people!
I really need your help! Today I went out to get the eggs from my girls (4 Red Sexlinks) and 2 had been injured, one very badly. She is bloody and barley moving, she's lethargic. The other one has had the combs ripped off either side of her face and is bloody...
Thank you so much for your reply! It wasn`t until after I sent<my first post that I realized it probably is because of longer daylight hours! LOL I feel kinda silly now! :) Thanks again!
So I`ve noticed in the past week that my girls seem to be going throught there food really quick, normally I fill their container once a week as that is how long it would take them to eat the whole conatiner and now it`s every other day! Does this mean they have worms? They don`t seem to be...
My 4 girls have been together since birth so the pecking order was established long ago, and this morning (which happens to be the coldest morning of the winter so far) my husband went out to get the eggs and said 2 of the girls were fighting in the nest box. They have never fought before so we...
Hi there
Ok so there is poison in apple seeds called cyanide, but it's harmless as there is such a small amount in the seeds that it will not affect you or your chickens. In fact the cyanide fights cancer. Do some research if your interested, goggle vitamin B17 or nitrilosides and you will...
For the second time now I have lost both my chickens! After the first time we re-in forced the coup with hardware cloth. That seemed to work for a while anyway... until this morning when I found them dead. There are no tracks in the sand inside the coup and I can`t tell how it`s getting in the...
Oh I just assumed it was scratch because it kinda looks like what you had described, but yes it is layer mash so I`m gona go get me some scratch! I will just use it for strictly treats and train the girls with it so they will come to me like yours come to you! I think that`s awesome!
Thank you...
Well I let them out today! You were right, they weren`t sure about comin out! It took about of 3 minutes and they stayed close to the coup for the first 20 min but they ended up checking out the whole backyard. Bella who has lots of personality kept trying to escape to the front yard! My kids...
