I hatched out seven this morning....my first time using an incubator, and I'm hoping next time more will hatch out ! But I feel blessed to have these seven Anconas ! I gave them a little piggy mommy for comfort ...lol
Is vent sexing pretty accurate ? I have someone who wants to come and select four females from my next hatch .....he says he can vent sex them. It won't injur the ducklings will it ? Thanks
On a side note, one duckling did hatch under a broody chicken a week ago, and came out with a bruised little beak ! Puffy and bruised. Ever happen to anyone before ? Must have had a hard time getting through the shell .
Wow those are all nice looking ducklings !! I just. Sopped turning my 14 in the bator today ....day 25 !! I've always used a broody chicken so I'm a bit nervous about this bunch , but hopefully they will all be as darling as the babies on here !!

I usually hatch under a broody chicken....and some just hatched naturallu this way...and Im still waiting on these babies!! Wow I will have SO many Anconas..and they are so hard to sell ...just too cute to give up! Wish...
My Anconas are under a Broody Chicken and one just hatched! 3rd time hatching ducklings under a chicken. What a feeling...they are FREE from their shell finally! I can never believe how those big feet and legs fit in that shell!!
I think I will have to sell some becasue I have too many...
I absolutely LOVE Ancona Ducks. They are great foragers, smart, and not TOO loud (for a duck).
And when they mingle with the chickens, they aren't too bossy!!!

On a sad note, I found a dead chicken today. With the "stuffing" pulled out like a chew toy. very disheartening. Any advice on what to do with the chicken body? Show it to him and scold? I caught him after the fact...so not sure what the best way to handle it...
Yes hopefully. Have you nuetered yours yet? I'm planning on doing so in September at 6 mos old. Any thoughts on this? I understand it should help calm him down and help him stay close to home. Our pup is constantly trying to mount our 3 year old Black Lab! And the lab letys this 4 month old do...
Does keeping your LGD tied up cause any more excitement or agression? I didn't think of tying mine up because I didn't want to cause that reaction. It's so strange that mine chose ducks to "play" with , and your chose just the Silkies.

I just don't want to cause more excitement by seperating them. He seems to be more interested in trying to catch and play with 7 new ducks we recently acquired. So Im wondering if he needs time to adjust to new animals and mayeb doesn't accept them right away?
