    The EE braggers thread!!!

And here are Ethel and the newly re-named "Rucifee" (what one of the little mice in Cinderella called the Step-Mother's cat... who was named Lucifer). They are now going on 5 weeks..still in the 4 week stage...

Separating my Only two chickens and WORRIED!

Thanks guys! I decided to keep them both quite a bit longer (maybe a couple more months or so). The new red star pullets are supposed to arrive tomorrow. I'll see how the bigger kids deal with them. I think Ethel will take to them well. I'll put up a cragislist ad when "Lucy" (we're now calling...

EE colouring / plumage - chicks vs/ adults --- Post your PICS!

Thanks Summer! He's starting to get more feathered. I need to post new weekly photos. I was planning on re-homing him right upon finding out he was a rooster, but will instead wait 3 or so more weeks...until my Ethel gets a chance to get friendly with the 3 new red star pullets I ordered (which...

Separating my Only two chickens and WORRIED!

Thank you! That's quite a helpful response. After reading some posts (I can't find very many on this topic), it seems best to send the two 4 week old chicks off together. I have a feeling they'll be separated once they get to the feed store, but I can call and talk to them. You're right...

Separating my Only two chickens and WORRIED!

I have two 4 week old EE's. I've recently come to the realization that one is a rooster. Before I become overly attached (I've had them since 1 week of age), I need to re-home the roo. The feed store that I purchased him from is willing to take him back and give him a nice home where he will not...

    EE Roo or Hen?

From what I've seen, Bella is definitely a rooster. Iridescent green upright tail feathers, mostly black chest with spotty white and red on the shoulders. Pointed hackle feathers. There's no questioning here. Females are just not colored/set up that way. One of your reddish chickens also looks...

Fred! Now that's cute. I feel stupid for not thinking of that!! Thanks!

EE colouring / plumage - chicks vs/ adults --- Post your PICS!

Hahahahaha! Or Lucifer. Although it's such a sweet bird. This sexing business drives me crazy. Chicken raising is lots of fun, but it's so darn sad when you have to find new homes for birds you become attached to. This is my first time raising chickens and we need some girls! We can't have...

    The EE braggers thread!!!

Here are my 3-4 week old EE's. I'm beginning to think "Lucy," the bigger bird is a male, because of the somewhat pink developing comb. It seems a bit early for the bird to be getting one (as I've read). The reddish brown coming in on the shoulders also has me wondering. The smaller bird is...

I updated post #412. Anyone want to guess on gender??

EE colouring / plumage - chicks vs/ adults --- Post your PICS!

A light chipmunk that turned into a hen?! Oh my. I guess the "light chipmunks always turn into roosters" rule doesn't always apply.

    Are they really that stupid?

Karen said she has six pullets. All at 60 days of age (2 months). I almost read it as you did. This is a good topic! I enjoy reading the responses, as I'm a newbie to having chickens and will use this advice. It's funny how we confuse stupidity with chicken survival tactics. I would take them...

EE colouring / plumage - chicks vs/ adults --- Post your PICS!

Thank you! I was thinking the same...maybe she's just going to be a small chicken. Yesterday when I got home in the evening, I took them outside to play and noticed that Lucy is getting new feathers! It's so amazing how they seem to come in overnight. There are new white, light brown, and medium...

EE colouring / plumage - chicks vs/ adults --- Post your PICS!

Here are my (hopefully) EE girls, "Lucy" and "Ethel." Lucy is a bit darker in color. They were both said to be 1 week old when I got them from the local feed store. However, "Lucy" seems much bigger than Ethel. Hmmm.... Lucy and Ethel Week 1 Week 2 Week 3-4 - The bigger...

    The EE braggers thread!!!

I'm having so much fun so far. We're getting started on the "hen house" within the next couple of days. My husband and I are going to build a small one. I'll take weekly pics of the chicks to post their progress. So far, their legs have stayed yellow. Maybe they'll change colors. It's so neat to...

    The EE braggers thread!!!

Your roo is beautiful! Does look a lot like my Ethel as a baby. It's so amazing how similar these chicks can look and how DIFFERENT they can be as adults. So cool!

    The EE braggers thread!!!

Nugget looks like Ethel! It's nice to see another light chipmunk colored birdie turn into a female. I've been reading a lot about how these chicks end up roosters. Mine doesn't have any "eyeliner" and has barely a mark trailing out the end of the eye. We shall see!
