    Dark Red Rhode Island Reds

The others are red, some reddish orange. These two are like a dark cherry color. Very pretty.

    Dark Red Rhode Island Reds

This is probably a really stupid question, but I'm curious. The majority of my birds are Reds. Two, a rooster and a hen, are much darker than the rest. Even petting these birds, they're different. They're much softer, almost rabbit like. Why such a difference?

    3 eggs from 1 hen...

I was thinking that, but I have 3 laying: one brown eggs, one blue and one green. Maybe she did one last night and two today? Is that normal?

    3 eggs from 1 hen...

I have a hen that just started laying eggs yesterday. Today she had 3 in her nest. I only have two birds that are laying and they have different eggs (one blue, one brown). What would cause this?

    Sitting on ONE egg

Lol, that's how this one is! They're with her at night and scattered behind her through the day. She recently discovered they can't find her in the middle of the tomato plants. Makes sense then that she's only interested in the one. She's so moody though. She'll probably be over it soon. Thank...

    Sitting on ONE egg

Yes, she is also a pain! Does it make a difference that there are chicks in the coop that are only about 3 months old? She's very nurturing towards them as well. They were bought, not hers. She acts like they are though.

    Sitting on ONE egg

I had attempted to return these same eggs a few days ago and she kept burying one in the nest, but she was okay with the others. She wasn't interested other than that and I was told that she may not sit due to the heat. I don't know if the one she broke was the one she buried though. Will a hen...

    Sitting on ONE egg

Every morning we check the coop for eggs. Normally all hens are roaming the yard and couldn't care less what we're doing. However, this morning one hen refused to get out of her nest. She bit me when I got close to her. I finally lifted her and found her sitting on one egg. I had taken five from...

    Black comb, not frostbite

It's just in one place, but it looks like it had swollen and died off? Will that happen with a pecking injury? Our rooster is older than them, but young. He's a bit..frisky. Would he do that? I have seen and stopped him from attempting to mate with them...and our dog.

    Black comb, not frostbite

I have 7 rhode island reds, about 3 or 4 months old. One of them has her comb turning black. It stands high and looks like a scab or like she's burned it. It's summer and we're in Texas, so it's definitely not frostbite! Anybody know what this is? I appreciate any help!
