I had a broody that hatched a lone chick. I separated her and the chick from the flock which is 1 rooster and 19 hens. The chick is now a week old and Mother hen is a fantastic parent and teaching the chick everything it needs to know. Mother hen is also very protective of her chick. The flock...
I have 19 laying hens 4 of which are around three years old and the rest are a year and a half. I hatched three new girls during the weekend of September 12th. Today I got 10 eggs which is the norm this time of year and with them was this little booger- Any way this could be from the fifteen...
My young birds are 9 weeks old and now in the run wire fenced off in a section with a temporary coop so they can get used to the changing weather and get to know the established flock. The run is covered 3/4 of the way with a roof. 4 of my 8 young birds has somehow gotten over the divider. When...
In some of the pics it looks like a pullet and in others cockerel. Here's a pic of my boy and girl to compare
18 weeks old this upcoming Friday. I think for sure a boy, wouldn't you say?
Here at some updated pics. I think it's a cockerel....he's the smallest of all my polish but his legs look thicker than the others. He still has no wattle or comb that I can see.
The free rare/exotic chick we got was a Silver Laced Polish. We only ordered 24 and with the rare/exotic chick we ended up with 26. This one was obviously put in by mistake. I'm pretty sure the legs are yellow. They're all fast asleep at this stage in the evening so I'll double check that leg...
Can anyone identify the breed of this chicken? It was an "extra" in the batch of chicks I bought from McMurray Hatchery. I have no other white chickens like this. The flock is now 11 weeks and 3 days old.
That's fantastic. I though so but needed some reassurance. I ordered 24 chicks from McMurray Hatchery ordering 1 Roo and 23 Pullets. After this confirmation, it looks like I got 6 Roos and 18 pullets.....
I have 8 adult hens and 24) 9 week old mostly pullets with a few roos. Both flocks have their own coops both of which are in a large fenced in run. The new flock was put into their coop at 5 weeks. I partitioned the run in half with a temporary see through fence so both flocks have seen each...
I bought 26 day old chicks from McMurray Hatchery and kept them in the brooder in my basement until they were 5 weeks and 2 days old. I moved them outside into their coop and locked them in for three days with NO artificial heat. I live in Northeast Ohio and since it was the beginning of May...
