Anyone ever see anything like this before? This egg had this wierd, thick, and really gross membrane covering it. It also had a hole in it when I scraped it away, but I also noticed the chickens pecking at a flabby piece of this membrane left in the coop where the egg was laid.

Recent chicken farmer here at Quarter Acre Farm. We have 4 Rhode Island Reds: Flo, Gertrude, Wanda Tanglefoot, and Joyce. Flo has a floppy comb, Gertrude is the mother hen, Wanda wanders and has backward toes on each foot, and Joyce, named after my wife, is the first in bed every time.

Nice to see other examples of recycling and doing it on the cheap. I had a lot of fun winging mine together out of land fill bound materials. Good job!
I used mostly discarded packing pallets that I found in an industrial park. True, I had to disassemble and clean all the wood of nails, etc, but it really wasn't that bad.
Also I had 4 toilet seats that I didn't know what to do with and thought they might be handy.
