Anyone ever see anything like this before? This egg had this wierd, thick, and really gross membrane covering it. It also had a hole in it when I scraped it away, but I also noticed the chickens pecking at a flabby piece of this membrane left in the coop where the egg was laid.

Also, the egg wasn't laid in the nesting box but near the door (1st time for that) and it is winter here with snow, etc and they've been cooped up for several days due to weather.

I don't have any idea what this is, but they all seem healthy enough.

    Any help? Thanks

I don't have any solid knowledge to back up this thought, but I wonder if the egg got stuck in the hen's tract, or even backed up to get an other layer of membrane and shell laid over it?? OR, it may be an alien spawn pod from a passing meteor!!
