I wish you the best. You should have seen my first attempt at breeding. I had some pretty funny looking birds. But I learned a ton. ( It was with trying to breed Chanteclers, they were funny looking because the Welsummer Roo kept jumping into they honeymoon suite and managed to have a few...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

There are few threads on BYC that have good tips for taming an aggressive rooster. Things like don't let him mate in front of you, knock him off the back of your hen. Bring a broom in with you and gently use that to push him away when he tries to jump on you. If you are consistent he will back...

Beautiful pictures of eggs! I would not rule out heritage breeds being strong layers. The Ancona was used for commercial production in the 1800's. The Welsummer is not a meat bird it is an egg layer it has the light weight body type for it. I believe it would be possible over time to return the...

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Yes, some of the birds at the show were monstrous, I was also surprised by how many bantis there were, much more bantis than standards. I am breeding for egg color and production. I am assuming the type listed for Wellsumers (flat back, high tail etc.) in the breed standard books (SOP) would...

    Welsh Harlequin Breed Club

That is great you are willing to help so much with a web site. Our family will be visiting Oragon this Holiday season. I am hoping to get a chance to visit the Holderreads. I know there are a few families who are trying to get the gold WH accepted into the standard. I think Dave and his wife...

So any way....back to the idea of forming a WH Breed club. Yes I would be interested. Yes I would be willing to put a small amount towards dues and or volunteer some time setting up a site. I have no WH ducks at the moment but plan on getting 10 to 20 in the spring (April 2014). Please keep me...

Thanks again Sander B for posting. The second set of pictures you posted is really clear for locating the black dot. Just wondering, how do your ladies do for egg laying. Are you happy with the amount of eggs they lay?

    Ancona Chicken Thread

This is great. I assume the black dot you are refering to is the very faded patch lower down in the picture towards the feet. If you get a better picture of it please post. I would also love to hear if yellow house farm is also seeing the faded black dot. Please post another picture or two if...

Chantecler Breeder and Owner Database Project

You might need slightly more hens to go with your roosters. If you only have one hen for each rooster the rooster will really harass the hen and she could get stressed out. The roosters like having a bit of a flock generally you want about ten hens to one rooster. I live in Vermont. good luck...
