Mine went down about 10:30 Monday night. Was reading a thread, went to next page & was "forbidden". Thought it was the thread (????) went to another & nope, I was totally forbidden. Can't remember when I've EVER been forbidden anything! :idunno
I'm now in full fledged withdrawals...
I have 8 of these hens who lay very light blue eggs....some just tinted. 5 lay nice eggs, 3 lay odd ones, guinea egg shape, small and one continually has poor shell (wrinkled). I plan to cross mine with a pure lavender Ameraucana, &/or a Crème Legbar/Ameraucana roo. It is my hope that I will...
MyPetChicken.com
MPC is actually a company who sells chicks, started chickens, fertile eggs, supplies, etc.
They sell a chick they have named Super Blue Egg Layer (SBEL). A cross between white & blue layers, supposed to lay large, blue eggs. You can see by the thread that several...
Woohooo....hatched eggs, wonderful results!! Soon to have some other SBELxSBEL laying. You're on a roll. Can't wait to see what you get with "new eggs". It is encouraging to know someone is progressing.
I haven't even attempted incubating yet. My herd of dairy goats have been...
I'm so sorry you've lost Gus & Chuck. Just not fair!
My 8 SBEL pullets are laying pale blue. Three TBWs are laying 2 pale blue, 1 white. 4 Ameraucanas laying light blue. I EE lays pale green. Last week I was gifted a pure Lavender Ameraucana -- Can I say "happy dance!!!???"...
La Casa -- I wish you were closer! I have 6 Marans roo (BCMs -- fullblood & clean flock) ) who are just too correct & colorful to butcher...large birds. But who needs SIX??? I would love, love, love to find them a home/flock where they could be used. That said, I was the grateful...
I've spent a lot of $$$ searching for those colored eggs. LOL My personal theory....you can SEE what a hen lays (eventually) but the roo is a gamble of sorts and can totally affect the outcome of the next generation of eggs. Both my SBEL and my TBW have layed a very pale blue egg...
ADORABLE chicks. Congrats.
There just isn't much more exciting & fun to watch than a hen & her chicks. It is the best way to raise them! My BOs were broody this year and I did hatch some from one of them. Next year I hope to have 3-4 broody again and I plan to load each of them up...
Good points. You should send them to the manufacturer.
If they were the only nests available for first laying hens, it "might" go better, use wise. You know how there are 10 nests and they all use one?? Mine will stand and sqwuack at the hen in the nest that they all want. Others empty!
The VERY worst part of this is the waiting!! Wait to lay, wait to hatch and THEN wait until the hatchlings are old enough to lay...........to just see the COLOR of that egg. We are nuts, that's all there is to it!!!
SO--- I have 8 MPC SBELs, laying light blue...very light. I have 3 TBWs...
Mine are smaller than many of my other birds of same age. But, leghorns & many of the other birds of the game type are typically leaner & slower to grow, IMO. I do have a roo and he hasn't been mean "yet" but we will see. I've heard some Andalusions were used -- not sure -- but they look to...
Congrats! Nice egg size, too. I get 6 a day from my 8 girls. Well, could be all eight but they like to "hide" them. I am working on another coop & run but with the heat it's been slow go. They have a building with some of the Marans & Ameraucanas that are similar age. Just time...
Yes, if not concerned with activity -- skittish -- they do become targets for predators. All my flocks are free range but do have different areas. The larger birds are just more inclined to be less likely to escape over a fence than these lighter breeds. I can see why. LOL But roosters I...
Do any of you have eggs now? I have 3 pullets & a roo all hatched from lovely, vivid blue eggs who should begin to lay within the month. (The parents were originally from McMurray.) Picking up another quad this wkend from someone who purchased from McMurray this Spring and not happy with...
WoooHooo At last, LOL. Lovely soft green on that EE, by the way.
It is so, so hard to wait! My SBELs are laying very well, as far as daily, etc. The shells are a touch brighter some days. Since I've been getting eggs from several every day I can see that at least 4 are regularly...
Thanks for the input. I am hoping that will happen here. The TBWs that I have were hatched from darker blue eggs. Can hardly STAND the wait! They should begin any time now. The roo is also from those dark eggs. If the TBW hens do lay darker, the that roo will be used for next...
My SBEL pullets started laying yesterday...bought from My Pet Chicken as day olds. Wanted DARKER eggs but, the pullets are healthy and spitfires! So they will be crossed with either my Wheaten AM roo, the Blue AM roo or the TBW roo. Waiting for my TBW girls to start to lay...4-6 wks? --...
My SBEL girls decided yesterday to bless me with cute little eggs....so yesterday & today, here's the pics.
I've put them on a white paper plate, obviously a brown egg to compare -- just your normal brown, not Marans -- and I placed a piece of BLUE & Yellow paper which are both primary colors...
Those pullets are lovely, nicely feathered, etc. Mine are all that but, straight red combs.
It seems the best we all can do is wait. That's the hardest part! BUT we are on the down slope now.
