We got 3 light Brahmas, 3 silver wyandottes and 4 blue anadolins in May that were appox. a week old. We were wondering when they should start laying?

We have 12 rhode island reds and live in new england They are a year old and are molting now. everything i have read says that they molt in the fall to winter but mine have a lot of bare bottoms.... some have missing tops. Is this common to molt in March and affect only the bottoms?

we are going to give the sand a try. waiting to get a damp morning and then cleaning off a layer of uck LOL and then replacing with sand. hope this will work. spread some tonight and seemed to help a little but our run doesn't dry out well.
to rock isle home, we tried wood shavings and it freaked the hens out so much they wouldn't come out of the coop for almost two days. ( was kinda funny but what ever) so we will try this and see if it will work.
