@RezChamp thanks for the compliments!! during the building process one of my neighbors threatened to move into it herself because she was so impressed... Hahaha!
@Pieper HA! That's funny that we both started with the same coop! Ours didn't hold up very well to the weather. The coop is in a really shady spot so without enough sun to dry out the wood after rain or snow, it just started falling apart. One swat of a paw from one of the many black bears...
@BYC Project Manager Thanks for choosing our coop!
@kathrynmary Thank you very much for the compliment! We worked hard on it for sure, but it will last forever and we definitely thought the price was relatively reasonable.
@Pieper we tried getting some of that foam board insulation and doing...
Thanks all! @roseforever63 Yes! He is a black German Shorthaired Pointer. He is supposed to be a bird hunter, but he's completely afraid of guns, so instead he helps us round up the chickens when we need them to head back to the coop ;)
@drakeschicks do you find that having the nest...

Hi All!
This past spring, we decided to add two more chickens to our existing flock of 4. We purchased six Black Australorp chicks figuring that when they got older we would keep two and give four away. We already had two Golden Comets and two Buff Orpingtons that were a year old. Here are...
Okay, I'll start by getting some of the Sav-A-Chick probiotics & electrolytes on my way home. I just hope she's still alive when I get there Thank you for the tips and tricks! I'm praying for the tiny little girl to make it through. Poor thing.
Okay, I'll try the probiotic and the electrolyte mix this afternoon when I get home from work. Mine did the same thing on her 3rd day that yours did (pecking at the feeder but not at the feed). She drank the water just fine though on day 3, but she seems to have deteriorated on day 4 and...
Hello. This is my first go-around with raising baby chicks so I could really use some help/advice. I purchased six black australorp chicks from our local Agway (so I did not see them hatch and don't know if there were any complications). They were three days old when I brought them home...
Hi "Fred" :)
Thanks! That is really helpful. They were born early this spring, I just meant that they weren't babies when I bought them, they were about 7 months old. This is their first fall/winter. I might just think about putting a plain lightbulb (not a source of heat, just light)...
Hi there :)
So I am very new to this. My friend and I purchased 4 older pullets (2 Golden Comets and 2 Buff Orpingtons) in July and they started laying within weeks. By now they are full-fledged hens and, up until a couple of weeks ago, we were getting an egg a day from all 4 of them. We...
Hi there!
I'm new to the whole "chicken" thing. I just purchased 4 hens a few weeks ago. Two of them have just matured enough to start laying, the other two haven't quite started yet, but they are all around the same age. I have two Golden Comets (or Red Stars, or Red Sex Links.. whatever...
