No, none of the hens are molting. The 16% laying pellets are always available 24/7. Scraps and grass are given once a week or so.
The feed store I go to carries a 20% protein laying pellet, but it's more expensive.... Is there any other way to bump up the protein?
I have 40 golden comets, a few RIR and 2 Dominique's, all of which are 30+ weeks old. I'm only getting 18 eggs a day, at the max. I'm feeding 16% lay pellets, free choice calcium, scraps, and grass clippings. Does anyone have an idea as to why I am not getting more eggs?
Thanks
I just got in 25 BBW Toms...and had couple questions. Will I have any problems with all of them being in a pen together fo16 weeks? Will they fight...? I hope that a Tom will taste as good as a hen... I got males because they grow faster, which means I don't have to keep them as long...
I have 25 BBW Toms that are hatching on September 8th. If they are fed high protein feed (27%) and scratch each day... will 11 weeks be long enough for them to fill out? I have to harvest the weekend before thanksgiving and I want them to meaty and also have some fat.... that's why I will...
I just built one. I paid $200 for the feather plate, shaft, and rubber fingers. The wood, pulleys, belt, and hardware (nuts, bolts, screws) was another $150, and I got the motor, barrel, and wiring for free. Used it for the first time last week, and was impressed. I had to downsize a motor...
10-4 thanks. I have no idea how old they are...don't know if they are past their good laying age or haven't reached it yet, but Ive had them for 3 days and no eggs yet. I looked them all over pretty for spurs etc...and all appear to be hens.
They will be 8 weeks old on the 23rd and I plan to process them on the 25th or so. I really think my two biggest problems were cold and too much food. Spring will correct the weather issue and I will slow down on the feeding. I have 50 more in the brooder that are 3 weeks old, and they are...
I tried my best to restrict it, but its tough to know exactly when they finish their food and if it's been 12 hours, etc... For instance, would feeding them a 5 gal bucket full of fermented feed be enough for 50 CX chickens for 12 hours?
I am just about ready to harvest my first round of CX. Everything started out good. I only lost 4 out of 50 while in the brooder, then when I moved them to the outdoor pen they started dropping left and right. We had a few cold snaps below freezing and every morning there would be 2-3 more...
I have been looking all over for a simple feed recipe and all I find has 100 ingredients and is not saving a bit of money. I'm talking about Corn, Wheat, Soybeans, maybe some fish meal....stuff like that.
Does anyone have a recipe that I can mix to feed to my layers to keep them healthy and...
Yes, I got a license through the USDA. pretty simple process. Feed is my biggest cost. I have plenty of friends that farm and could get soy beans, wheat, etc. from them..., and even have access to a small grinding mill...but i cant seem to find a recipe for a good SIMPLE layer feed...
