found my hen laying eggs in grass...what do i do with the eggs??

Assuming your hen is laying every day, the oldest would only be 12 days old. Egs aren good for 21 days without being refrigerated. Once refrigerated their shelf life improves dramatically.

Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

I had gamecock farm beside a busy highway. You could see about 200 of the 450 cocks and their teepees from the road. Each of these cocks were on a 9' rubber tie cord.A elderly lady stopped by one Sunday while I was feeding and asked how long did it take for me to train my roosters to stay at...

    Chicken Taught Life Lessons

Ever since I heard a sermon taught about how christians could learn a few things from Gamecocks, {I was 8 yrs old} I have tried to observe, learn and apply "chicken lessons" to my own life. Last nite, a neighbor contacted me because she wanted to give her chickens away and knew I would provide...

    Question about "rogue" MW hen

If she has been sitting a week or more, I would leave her alone. She has obviously chosen a good spot. The wild turkey population in Ga has exploded since the re-introduction of coyotes, ,which tells me they are pretty woods smart.I have not raised turkeys before, but I have had game fowl for...

Roosters: The Good The Bad & The Ugly

My apologies if I offended anyone, and yes the gentler approach is better, whether your raising animals or children. It is also more time consuming, and therefore in our rushed society, seldom practiced. I have to tether my cocks on 12 ' tie cords because they will kill each other if they can...

Roosters: The Good The Bad & The Ugly

I can assure you that if you handled gamecocks this way YOU would be the one upside down and embarrassed! I have seen these 5 lb warriors put men to flight when they are mishandled. If you have this big of a problem, then the problem is with you and not the rooster. Get you some tie cords from...

Need help with bringing in roos

Most people like 1 rooster per 10 hens. I raise American Games and I have run 1 cock for 30 hens on a free range yard with no problems. Are they in a pen? If so, I would just get one rooster and let him settle the pecking order. If it is free range, then two roosters would suffice. I dont have...

OKay, I am starting to have my doubts - anyone wanna guess the breed?

He appears to be a game of some sort. My law greys look a lot like your little man. As he grows older his neck feathers will turn a blonde color.. They are truly beautiful fowl. If you go to ultimate fowl website, you will see a grey in the upper right hand corner.

Breed of dog that won't hurt my birds

I am a dog trainer and I have raised gamecocks for 40 years, so I feel qualified to answer your question. I have had sheperds, dobermans, pits, aussies, and numerous "mutts". I currently have a Pressa as my chicken protector. The first thing I would do is go to the animal shelter, and look at...

You tell it like it is Matt! I got my first one 40 years ago and have not looked back! One of the most misunderstood breeds.I Believe if more poultry lovers would own this breed, their reputation would prove itself. The gamefowl industry will save the poultry industry in years to come, because of...
