My coop was at around 10F during the cold snap and they seemed to do fine, I used a plain 100 watt red floodlight because I didn't want to over do it or spoil the flock.
I have 2 Pekins and 9 chickens who usually live separately but when it got frigid I put the ducks in with the chickens and...
Is this possibly a call duck?
It showed up about 3 weeks ago at my next door neighbors house, they have no ducks, only 2 small dogs and 2 cats
It comes over and hangs around my yard a bit too, I have 2 Pekins and 9 chickens and it will walk right up to me and let me feed it, I even picked it up...
Sorry to hear about your duck, I seriously doubt it was the other ducks
More than likely a weasel or mink like you suggested.
I lost one of our Pekins earlier this year, no sign of anything, just gone so I assumed a large hawk, eagle or fox maybe :(
I hope everything goes well for you in the...
What I did with my run is framed it similar to how yours is and I covered the sections I wanted to be solid with 1/2" CDX board and covered that with the steel siding, the open sections I covered with chicken wire.
The sides of mine have 2 solid sections with a screen near the top around 10"...
Mine likes to eat chicken droppings which is totally disgusting, I'm having a hard time breaking her of it.
She is 12 yrs old and knows what NO means but I can't watch her 100% of the time and with the chickens ranging the yard I feel it may be a lost battle unless I keep the birds penned.
I saw a lot of raptors today surveying my yard while the birds where out ranging, one flock had to have had 12 or so birds in it. Not sure what they were but they were almost as big as a turkey vulture. I also saw a few of those soaring around with the hawks/eagles or whatever they were.
Must be...
I have 6 roosters and 4 hens that are just 6months old now, so far no death fights but I have a couple of the favorite hens with almost bare patches on their backs from being tag-teamed.
5 of the roos have a date this Thurs morning which I am not thrilled about but it needs to be done sooner...
Looks like an Eastern Milk Snake, notice the "V orY" pattern just behind it's head.

Since I don't use mine frequently, I lightly coat with oil and place inside 2 plastic shopping bags with the handle sticking out and then tie a knot around handle, keeps the dust and bugs off your cooking surface.
When I use it again, I wipe with paper towel, oil to cook and when cleaning again...
For my small flock I use a metal trash can also and it works great to keep the vermin out, once it gets below half or so I get another bag of feed and top it off, haven't used much lately since they free range half the day so I am going to pick up another can before winter so I can have more on...
I just found my first 2 duck eggs, last night my wife noticed the drake standing near his water bin and the duck was behind or in the igloo duck house. We walked out and saw here peek around the corner of it and she came out and stood next to the drake like normal. We went back in the house and...
Here is a link that shows this years reported migration of the ruby throat hummingbird, I think that is the only Michigan species
http://www.hummingbirds.net/map.html
I always leave mine a couple weeks after I stop seeing the hummers, not sure if it's laziness or what I was told to do
I set them out the first or second week of May before I see them depending on how cold the average temp is that particular year.
