Man, crickets. Anyone? Should I leave it alone? I don't want to stress her if I don't have to, but I also don't want it to split. I'm just not experienced enough to know if that's likely to happen or not.

Say that 3 times... ;) So my poor broody had an overgrown beak when her chicks hatched (just from sitting around I suppose). I inquired about this on one of the active broody threads twice- wondering if I should do something. Received no replies. The long tip of her beak has now cracked off...

Lol... I had to shade the entrance to the box with newspaper for mine while she hatched her chicks out. The other hens really wanted to lay eggs in there.

I'd give her at minimum another 24 hours. If you've been having record heat there like we've had here you might bring some water by periodically for her (supervised only, so the chicks don't fall in).

Quick question: My broody now has chicks. Her upper beak is somewhat overgrown from lack of normal wear. It doesn't look critical yet but it's definitely noticeable. She still eating just fine, but if it gets much longer it will probably be a hinderance. Do I need to worry about this or is...

I know, right?? 4 hatchlings so far!! 8 remaining all have pips, I think- I'm trying not to hassle the broody too much. lol

Does anyone have a picture of what a white or light standard sized Turken that is missing the NN gene will grow up to look like? Had one today from a bonus hatching egg. She (if a she) is going to be a pet or a layer- we are not culling for genetics, as this is just a little backyard...

Mine only peck or pull feathers in winter when it snows and they are in the coop most of the day (less so if I manage to shovel the run). It's a huge coop/lots of floor and dust bathing space... but I think they just get bored. They don't pull/peck aggressively or run away from each other...
