Have a wonderful girl setting eggs now. I would like to remove the chicks when they hatch next week and allow her to raise a second clutch. Is this possible or recommended. I would let her raise the second batch of chicks. Thank you in advance. Bren
This is going to be my first try at incubating eggs. I have ordered eggs and have them resting after shipping as indicated. I have read over the forum backwards and forwards. I purchased the Brinsea Mini Advanced incubator and am all set with it up and running for a full check before the eggs...
I have 2 broody hens....one setting about 1 week and another who has just gone broody. I want the second hen to hatch out eggs arriving on in 2 days. The first hen is in a large dog crate in the garage (26 X 36") Is it possible to add the other hen to this setup or does the new hen require a...
I was once given an ultimatum....him or the dog. I made the wrong decision and returned the dog....I should have kept the dog and let the husband go!!!!!! Good luck I your decision...not easy but keep yourself safe!
Thank you all for your suggestions.....I will probably need to lower one of the roosts...although separated, they are very close to the same height. I have gone out and paneled the nesting boxes tonight...will see how that works. I will keep you posted.
Have two batches of chicks in with established group of hens. They have taken up sleeping in the nesting boxes. I have put rocks in the nesting boxes, tried to wire it off with small rabbit wire...but they somehow are finding their way around it. They are making such a mess the hens don't...
Any possibility that your rooster is a little over zealous in the love making department. I did have feather loss on the back and wings of my girls for a bit and it was the rooster. Just a thought. I'd be interested in what others think.
Had the same thing happen with my rooster with no other symptoms. I was told by others on the list to watch him carefully for respiratory symptoms.....nothing else developed and he was back to his normal crowing in 4 days.
Placed an order of 6 that arrived on July 22. All arrived nice and perky. One chick died at 1 week....just a failure to really get going chickie. All others doing just fabulously. Do have roo that was mistakenly sexed that I will need to find a home for but otherwise, no complaints.
Need to make sure I am reading all the information correctly. I have 1 week old baby chicks. This week the temp was supposedly to be lowered to 90 and I have done that. The chicks are hanging out completely on other side of the brooder box. They are huddled together sleeping and are eating...
Strange thing started yesterday and continues today. Rooster's crow is not as loud or clear as it usually is...actually seems like he has a case of laryngitis. Has anyone had this happen and, if so, is there a reason for concern? He has absolutely no other symptoms that I can find.
Definitely the coop first.....you can order chicks from some of the places listed in the "Buy Sell Trade" section. You can also order from mypetchicken.com and order smaller amounts. Good luck! It really is fun!
