Thanks so much! We thought he was a roo (hence his name change from Gwen to Watson), but then saw a few BR at the LA County Fair that looked a lot like him in the hen area...so we got confused! Thanks a bunch!
Hey how did your two girls do? Two of my three sickies did eventually develope clear nasal discharge and some sneezing, but the Baytril definitely made a huge difference and sent the Grimm Reaper packing...despite the discharge they are perky and feeling great! Hope your girls are the same!!
Chickenzoo - I have su;fadimethoxine soluble powder which I had them on prior to going to the vet - that is what a local breeder suggested trying. It says it treats for coccidiosis also. Do you think it would be ok to put it back in their water? I was giving the little one who is now having such...
I don't know what to do here. This little chick is in with 6 others (all the same age) and previously had seemed to be at the top of the pecking order. However now one little cochin seems to have really gone after him/her, and when I went to check them this morning everyone (though mostly the...
I totally understand. Everything I read scared me. I know my girls still aren't out of the woods yet - they are so weak and lethargic, but I'm really, really hoping the meds help. I tried Vetericyn (the eye gel, not the wound gel) in their eyes that I usually use for the horses, and it didn't...
An update on the chicks:
Went to the vet and she prescribed Enrofloxacin and Mycostatin orally twice a day and Gentamicin drops for the eyes. She said it looked like a sinus infection from the swollen eyes because their sinuses run around their eyes. She honestly didn't seem too worried about it...
Hope your little ones are doing better...?
The vet prescribed Enrofloxacin and Mycostatin orally twice a day and Gentamicin eye drops twice a day. For the whole new flock that came together. Hasn't seemed to make a huge difference so far. Vet said it was just a sinus infection and didn't seem...
I had a similar issue, sans the runny nose. I took my chicks to the vet and was prescribed Enrofloxacin (Baytril), Mycostatin and Gentamicin eye drops. The vet said the swollen eye is related to sinusitis because their sinuses run around their eye. She didn't seem too worried about it (here I am...
This sounds exactly like what I am dealing with! I have three little Cochin Bantams that I got from a "breeder" on craigslist, and when I first saw one of the little gals (5 1/2 weeks old) with a swollen eye I thought someone pecked her. I isolated her and kept her warm and put ointment in her...
OK, thanks a bunch!
Another of the cochins who was fine yesterday (appearance wise) now has a red, watery, itchy eye. She is very full of energy, however, unlike the other two. I've also quarantined her. Everyone still seems to be breathing ok. Just the eye issue, and the lethargy in the two...
Thanks for the info...
With a respiratory disease would I see some signs of distress? Like trouble breathing, sneezing or runny nose? Anything like that?
Because so far they haven't displayed any of those symptoms. Just the watery eyes and lethargy. When they are awake they eat a little, scratch...
Hi there,
I am a relatively new chicken owner and have been growing my flock for the last several months. Saturday I brought home 5 new Bantam Cochin chicks between 5 and 6 weeks old from a local breeder. When I got home I noticed one of the girls (no clue if she will actually be a hen or not)...
