Maybe I should try leaving my chick stick in their cage...can chicks eat themselves to death? Mine will be old enough to move outside soon...maybe the extra calories will help.
I got one last weekend and my chicks love it, so much that I only give it to them for a little while each day beause they won't eat or do anything else when it's in there! It was spendy too. I think I paid about eight bucks for mine. I'm not sure I would buy it again. However I was at...
Hi floralpicker, great question. As long as you're sure that the water in the creek is free of contaminants and relatively clear, it's probably fine for your chickens. One thing I would be mindful of, depending on how the coop and watering system is set it up, is that you don't create a...
If you're up for something quite different, I watched It's a Distaster (R??) recently and found it entertaining. It may require having a demented sense of humor however. I want to see Life of Pi while its still in theaters.
I think kids are just going to screw up sometimes. It's a part of growing up. It's how we learn. I don't know very many perfect kids, even those that come from the best of home lives. I expect my kid to make some mistakes. He's made a few this year, nothing that shocked me. I've been much more...
I suppose if the question had been asked by someone of authority, I may feel differently about it, my local primary school...not so much. Are you able to decline answering at the VH?
I've trained my chickens to do the weed work too. When they see the temporary fence come up they know where to go. They seem to understand that it's their job. Such useful critters! I may change my mind about this when spring gets here and I want something to grow!
Hi newfoundland. I appreciate your comments and for the most part completely agree. My guy certainly didn't get away with this at home either. We take making threats very seriously in our home. What surprised me (in addition to my kids poor choice) was the question from the principle. I...
Must be the theme this week. I got a call from my 7 year olds school this week. Apparently my son had gotten in a tussle with another boy and threatened to shoot the other kid. He knows this isn't ok but I suppose forgot the rules in the heat of the moment. Anyway the principle called me and...
I'm not an expert but what I've been told is that if you use a good layer feed that should suffice. I would use the hardness of your eggs as an indicator. I've also heard if you do feed oyster shell to not mix in their feed. Not sure why that is. Thanks for asking this question because I've been...
Last fall I got three young hens all of which have just started laying in the last month or two. Everything seemed to be going well and each one would lay every one or two days. All three lay a different color egg so it's easy to tell who's doing what. But in the last week two of them suddenly...
I'm very new with chickens as well. My chickens are a little older but my dog has never been around them. I bet mine will eat their poo too. Thanks for the reply and hello from across the Willamette!
Was your Aussie always good with the chickens? I just got chickens and have an older Aussie that seems way too interested in them! I guess we'll see what happens when they meet outside of the coop.
