I just noticed this on my Jen yesterday, is it a keel cyst?
I held her up by her feet and it seemed to deflate.
If I give it a squeeze it seems to deflate.
Deflated, the skin is red, but surrounding is normal.
Sorry if this has been asked a dozen times before...
When I Google Blue-laced wyandotte I see a pic of a hen with a BLUE belly and that seemed to be THE advertising pic last year, but this year all of the hatcheries seem to be calling the birds "blue laced red wyandotte" and showing birds that...
I couldn't get him to hold still and it's too hot to chase him around...
It seems to only be on the front of the knee (inside the bend), but on both legs.
I have a wyandot rooster whose knees seem to be battered to heck and back. It kind looks like when you fall down on gravel, but it was all broken glass.... Sort of like the face of a muscovy duck, but on his knees. I took a close look at them a while back and though maybe he was just fighting...
This sounds like my conure.
One minute she is all snuggled up under my cupped hand and falling asleep, the next she is mad as heck and willing to fight to the death. :-)
Sorry if this has already been asked and answered - please direct me to that thread if so.
I live in central Pennsylvania and use a horse stall for a coop for my chickens. I have sectioned off an area in another horse stall to brood out some chicks I got for free earlier this summer and...
I too am ashamed to admit that I only just today noticed that my Pekin was limping and checked her feet to find a black scab that's about the size of a nickel; her other foot has a MUCH smaller black scab as well.
I went to the drug store and got some Epsom Salt and bandages but was late for...
I currently have a Rouen (male) and three Pekins (two males) and they don't seem to get on well at all. I think I can mostly write that off as "too many males".
How well do different breeds of ducks get along?
I'd like to get more females of different breeds, but I want to know they will at...
One of my hens went broody and we've had seven chicks survive the first 3 or 4 weeks.
This morning se laid an egg for the first time since she starting siting the nest - so sevenish weeks..
Is that a normal time frame?
Is it a sign she is ready to come out of the brooding pen?
Is it a sign...
I'm not happy about the disproportionate quantity of males either, but it was luck of the draw...
I bought 4 pekin chicks and a week later 2 rouen chicks, one of the pekins caught a chill at about week 6 and perished and the rest played out as it has...
With the chickens, the lady at Tractor...
I have a slightly diverse flock, 3 roosters, 3 hens, now 7 month old chicks, 2 Pekin drakes, a Pekin duck and 2 Rouen drakes. One of the roosters and the two Rouens are often aggressive toward one another, but the two drakes tend to team up against him and come out on top. The two Rouens don't...
This is the space I am currently using; it's 8' x 14' - there is a similar space adjacent.
This wall now has four nesting boxes in it.
The adjacent space is behind this wall. I'm thinking of just using the half to the right, about 7'6" x 8'6".
Right now this corner has a grow out pen...
I use a decent sized horse stall for a coop, it's about 10' x 14' with a 10'+ ceiling. Right now I house 6 adult chickens, 5 adult ducks and 7 month old chicks. I have an adjacent horse stall of a similar size that I am thinking of expanding into if I have another hen go broody or I decide to...
This is the beginning of my second year with chickens.
I had three hens laying and one went broody before I was sure of what was going on, so she ended up sitting 12 eggs. The first eggs hatched mid day Sunday and so far 7 chicks have hatched and are scampering about.
I found one egg had...
Wow, such a simple name!! :-)
I just cleaned out their swimming pool, so I think I'll add a bunch of vinegar to it to set the pace from the start.
Thanks!
I hope this is the right spot for this question and it hasn't been asked a dozen times before....
A month or so back one of my Pekins had an eye infections. It was all crusted up and sealed shut, at first glance I though something had plucked his eye out because the dirt, feathers and goo...
I was just thinking leather because of the inherent funny of an actual saddle on the hen, I have a bunch of leather scrap, so cost is not as much of an issue, but after posting the question the other downsides of leather came to me. I have some fake leather, but that's a pain to deal with so...
OK, I'm sure I'm being stupid about this...
Both of my sex link hens have been getting too much attention and one of them has got a heck of a slash last night...
I know I have too many roosters and I have had zero luck rehoming them - so I'll need to step up and deal with that myself...
