Chicken leaves for couple days then returns...sounds like a chirping bird?

It seems the pool worked because she willingly went into the coop last night with the others. Their run is officially closed in but they could hop the fence if they wanted so I have to build it up higher this week. I will say...building a chicken run while 9 months pregnant isn't on my "to do"...

Chicken leaves for couple days then returns...sounds like a chirping bird?

Just curious....how would she have gotten the eggs from the coop? Her nest was at least 200 feet, over a fence and "thru the woods" kind of location. She would have had to move them past our 2 dogs as well since she was cutting thru their fenced in area. I'm new to chicken owning so I'm not...

Chicken leaves for couple days then returns...sounds like a chirping bird?

I dunked her in the dog's baby pool...an hour later she was making a run for the nest again so I dunked her one more time a litle longer. She has been staying in the backyard at this point but still clucking quite a bit. If this doesn't work then we'll lock her in a dog crate.

18 eggs! EIGHTEEN! I cannot believe this. Is that a normal amount of eggs? How long do you think she has been hiding here without us knowing? I hcount my chickens every night so I know she was in the coop all but 3 nights.

Chicken leaves for couple days then returns...sounds like a chirping bird?

You wise chicken souls. She came home this morning and I decided to trick her and keep her out front so I could follow her easily without having to climb fences (I'm 9 months pregnant, it wouldn't happen lol). I fed her corn, grain and some leftovers. She kept fluffing up and wagging her...

Chicken leaves for couple days then returns...sounds like a chirping bird?

I stalked her for an hour and she wouldn't leave...second I turned my back...gone. I will try harder lol. I'm assuming she is laying since we have 5 chickens and had 4 eggs after she left which our typical is 3...I also saw her in the nest. I did notice she was ruffling a lot. The chirping is...

Chicken leaves for couple days then returns...sounds like a chirping bird?

A month back my chicken disappeared for 2 days and then to my surprise she reappeared in the morning 2 days later. Last week she wasn't in the coop on Wednesday but returned Thursday morning. She left during the day Thursday after she ate and laid an egg then Saturday, at 12:30am I was woken...

How to keep people away from our chickens?!

No roos in city limits. :( But I guess overall we will be avoiding any and all danger by making a run. Then there won't be any worries...

How to keep people away from our chickens?!

The chickens are "supposed" to stay in the fenced in portion out back. However, they were raised in the garage until the weather permitted us to put them in the coop. So they're familiar with the garage area. I have 3 ISA Browns which seem to be the sneaky ones. They continue to find new...

How to keep people away from our chickens?!

We have no idea who these people are...with the exception of one person who we had befriended but have now unfriended due to his desire to "save" our chickens. Yes, he was trying to do us a favor and assumed he was helping by chasing the chickens through our yard...but as I pointed out, they...

How to keep people away from our chickens?!

:/ errr...I don't know. I'm not sure it would really look right to put something like that up in the yard. I'm thinking about trying to find a company that makes signs and have them make one that says "Please don't touch the chickens" and make them decorative in our flower bed...

How to keep people away from our chickens?!

We have 3...the signs are sort of hidden, as mentioned above...so people can't see it when driving by but once you're in the yard, you can see them because they're sort of placed behind the flowers so the city can't see the tacky signs.

How to keep people away from our chickens?!

We are city chicken owners. We have a double lot. We have the lot our house is in which has a 4 foot chain link fenced in back yard. The second lot is directly behind our backyard, connected by a gate doorway (can only access the 2nd yard by going thru our back yard connected to the house)...

Will clipping wings keep chickens in 4 foot chain link fence?

Yet again we have the neighborhood chasing our chickens through the front yard. 2 days in a row we have come outside to grown adults running around the yard, chasing chickens..."Did you know there are chickens in your yard?" Yes...we know. I'm glad you find it necessary to come into our yard...

Red sex link had egg stuck in vent - keeps laying soft eggs

Thanks all. They're my first flock so it's heart breaking to think something could possibly go wrong or I could lose her. Hopefully this is the one and only time. I'm just thankful I'm so observant. Who knows what could've happened had I not paid attention to her lack of interest today.

Red sex link had egg stuck in vent - keeps laying soft eggs

My red sex link was puffed up, walking slow, had yellow discharge coming from her vent and wasn't interested in eating. I read online it was possibly an egg or soft shelled egg stuff. I put on some gloves and braved the idea of doing things to my chicken I never imagined. Quickly I realized...

HELP!!! Grey wattles/combs/faces and black coffee grind poop (pics)

LOL No....you'd think that'd be the first thing, right? I tried to smear it off and some didn't budge much which then sent me into chicken panic mode to find out what was wrong.

HELP!!! Grey wattles/combs/faces and black coffee grind poop (pics)

Well no sign of fire pit bathing. I showed a "chicken expert" at the feed store pictures of the ladies and he said he thinks they just got into some sort of dirt somewhere and since they can't clean their face, it's been staying that way...esp since we've had rain sprinkles on and off lately...

HELP!!! Grey wattles/combs/faces and black coffee grind poop (pics)

We have a fire pit in the same area they free range but I've never seen them in it or near it. They scour the compost though. We do have coffee grinds in there...basically everything that you woul throw away. We give them all our left over meat and dairy too. They have been trying to take...

HELP!!! Grey wattles/combs/faces and black coffee grind poop (pics)

I have been searching the internet for 3 days. I have found NOTHING so far that can tell me what in the world is going on with my chickens. First, their faces look dirty. Like they dipped them in a dust pan and it stuck to their wattles, combs and faces. Today I found their poop looks...
