Thanks everyone I will be reading up on ducks and now that I have an idea of her age, I can better care for her. I so appreciate the quick responses.

Tell me anything about this new rescue duckling...please :)

Thank you. Any guess on an age? More thick fuzz than feathers. I’m thinking duckling. She came from inside a home, but the electric was off. I’m hoping the 65 degree garage is suitable. We’ve had freezing temps in the past week, so she hasn’t had a lot of heat in the house she came from. I...

Tell me anything about this new rescue duckling...please :)

I currently have 28 5 week chicks waiting for their coop to be finished to move out of the house. Hubby brought this, I believe baby, home this afternoon from a hoarding situation. Animal control won't take birds, other than to put them down, so he brought her home and she's in the garage. I...

When to let chicks out in the yard, supervised, but not in a pen

Thank you everyone, our coop should arrive in a couple days and after that when temps are good at night, I'll be brave and stick them out there and check on them. I've read this forum for 2 years in anticapation of getting out first chicks and thought I'd be OK. Just like babies, there are...

When to let chicks out in the yard, supervised, but not in a pen

centachild, after reading many of your posts, I'm much more inclined to believe you than the breeders we got them from. They need no transistion time from our 75 degree house to a well built coop that the outside temps go into the 40's at night? Thank you so much for your responses!

When to let chicks out in the yard, supervised, but not in a pen

Are you saying they should be kept inside until they are ready for the coop? That's fine and I can do that. I just want what is best for the girls. So far they've only been outside when we were cleaning out their brooder and today I left them out for about an hour.

When to let chicks out in the yard, supervised, but not in a pen

We got 9 chicks at 5.5 weeks and now they are 6.5 weeks and I take them out in a big dog crate without a floor when it's nice outside to nibble grass. They live inside the house and the place I got them from said to keep them living inside for another 3 weeks at least. Because they live inside...

    Dominique Thread!

Thank you, after seeing your post and looking up the word "chirping" on BYC, I see they all do! I've been lurking for a year in anticipation and am happy to have my friendly chirpers finally here.

    Dominique Thread!

We bought our first chicks, all Dominques, last week at 5 weeks old. So far, I'm up to page 126 of this thread and haven't seen anything about how much they peep. We have 9 chicks and from morning to night someone is always peeping, if not everyone. Is this a chick thing, a Domique thing...
