I tried that last year with our lavenders and they sexed about 70/30 in favor of boys. We ended up with 8 girls and 6 boys.

I took a look at my older CLs today. I have a girl who was a 2012 hatch who has the same / similar thing, but she didn't have it prior to this molt.

If you have one, try a wire bottom cage. That usually works for my Silkies.

The males do tend to get more white on them than the females. We have grown out Greenfire, Heirloom and a combination of the two and it generally holds true. I have seen a couple of pullets who have a lot of white at an early age but 98% of the time, white at 6-7 weeks indicates male. :)
