    Silkie Bantams... take 2

Thanks so much! I'm getting a little better at this whole chicken sexing thing, then.

    Silkie Bantams... take 2

So since I am a silkie virgin, and am very unsure of myself even after reading the how-to's... anyone have any thoughts on these two? They are almost 11 weeks old, and the one with the bigger comb and waddles had its tail feathers pecked off.

    Another EE cockerel?

Thanks so much everyone. Now if I could just be sure about the silkie bantams I'll be all set. I have 3 confirmed cockerels and one suspected silkie.

    Another EE cockerel?

It was the tail feathers getting a little sickle shaped that was worrying me. I hope she is a she. Thank you!

    Another EE cockerel?

Thinking my darker black mottled EE might be a cockerel, too. It would he just my luck... LOL

I think my sexed pullet is a cockerel...

Yup... just as I thought. Thanks. I know most araucanas sold in the stores are EE's so I figured that much, too. Thank you for your time in helping me.

I think my sexed pullet is a cockerel...

Got this lovely as a sexed aracauna pullet but I'm not convinced. Anyone want to confirm my fears? Hard to get a good picture since the newbies are a bit weary of the bigger hens. (S)he is about 8 weeks old.

Anyone have any idea about my little chick's toes

Thanks so much! I love her to bits, and I think she will survive to be a happy, spoiled adult. The big hens scalped her a few weeks back, and she recovered from that, so I think she can handle just about anything. She follows me around like a duckling and LOVES my dog (even though Maddie...

Anyone have any idea about my little chick's toes

I have this sweet little... about 8 weeks old now. She has two toes that curl inward rather than lie flat like her other toes. She is also a lot smaller than the rest of them but is a standard chicken as far as I know. I got her at the local Agway and that is how she was sold... sexed and...

Attention Wyandotte enthusiasts! Roo or pullet?

They look like pullets to me, too.

    Breed and gender

How old are they, and are they the same age? I'd say top is a cockerel and bottom is a pullet. They look like my buff wyandottes, but I am not going to bet the farm on it.

    Think we got a male

I have RIR's, and I'd say pullet, too.

    White silkie bantams... *sigh*

That's what I was thinking, too, so I'm glad that you do, too. I was able to pick out pullets from the straight run wyandottes and RIR's, but the bantams are just a grab bag... LOL. I only ended up with one cockerel out of all of the standard straight run birds and that was because I didn't...

    White silkie bantams... *sigh*

I am pretty good at sexing the normal chickens at this point, but silkies are a mystery to me. This is my first year with them and they are bantams on top of it. Here are a few pictures. I'm trying to figure out if I have a rooster amongst them. No biught them at tractor supply in March...

    New Hampshire!

Hello everyone! I am new the the site and from Epping, NH. I don't have any chickens right now, but have raised them in the past. I am currently planning out our coop and plan on getting some wee baby chicks in the spring. We will be raising chickens for both eggs and meat, but not raising...

    Ponderings on coop size...

Oh no... not too long at all! I truly appreciate the weath of knowledge there. Thank you very much! I had read the ventilation page and the muddy run page already, but I will definitely read the cold coop page. I am not a complete newbie with raising chickens, but my last flock was just 5...

    Ponderings on coop size...

Hello all! I am just in the beginning dreaming phase of my backyard brood. I plan on raising what most would call dual purpose birds (right now I am looking at NH Reds and Buff Orpingtons with a few Araucanas mixed in for those lovely blue-green eggs). What I am picturing is having 6 - 8...

    New member from NH...

Hello everyone! My name is Jeanne and I am a new member of the flock here at your wonderful site. I have owned chickens in the past and am looking into starting a new flock of heritage birds next year for both eggs and meat. It's gearing up into winter here in the northeast now and I don't...
