Swollen Hot Feet- Purple Toenail and not using that foot....help....

Well.... no happy ending here ...... I was able to contact a vet that my cooperative extension referred me to. She said it sounded like an infection and suggested duramycin. I went right out and bought that and put it in her water. She didn't seem to be drinking the water so we started giving...

I'm reading up on gout... so I separated her, and am giving her fresh fruits and veggies and oatmeal (whole grain? -- should I cook it?) and ACV in her water..... anything else I should be doing? Thank you so much for your input. I was at such a loss, feeling helpless about losing this sweet...

Swollen Hot Feet- Purple Toenail and not using that foot....help....

The pics aren't very good, my 9 year old took them. I hate to disturb her. The foot has been hot but is now cool to the touch. There are no sores on her foot. I separated her because the others are starting to pick on her.

Swollen Hot Feet- Purple Toenail and not using that foot....help....

Our kids favorite chicken has had swollen feet for a couple weeks -- no sores,so not bumblefoot. Both legs/feet affected. We thought maybe mites so we treated for that -- poultry dust, dipped feet in mineral oil. We treat her with vaseline every couple of days. She has been putting herself...

Flock losing feathers on back and heads and not laying

I will do that -- I did just powerwash the whole coop. I'm feeding them layer pellets that I get at TSC, or the same from Agway, now Clydes. I'll have the kids help me check more of the chickens.

Flock losing feathers on back and heads and not laying

Eggcessive, Thanks for the link, I had read that article but it's a good one to study. I checked 2 of them over really well, and they really look great, I see no signs of mites or problems. I bought some sand and put it in the corner of their coop. Maybe it's just molting!

Flock losing feathers on back and heads and not laying

Yes, GingerJane, some did. But now more have the same problem long after Roo is gone. It was logical when we had a rooster but now with new ones developing the same baldness pattern, not so much!

Flock losing feathers on back and heads and not laying

Got rid of the rooster 6-7 weeks ago. Would you put the sand or ashes in some type of container of just on the floor of the coop? I did powder them with a poultry powder for mites.

Flock losing feathers on back and heads and not laying

Hi, my chickens are just over a year. In the spring I noticed that some of them were losing feathers on their heads. Then a couple had missing feathers on their backs. I just figured it was a molt. But now it is August and the feathers are just not growing back. It appears the ones around...
