If he is too loud, I can't. They are allowed in the county. but I have 1 neighbor who might mind . I don't want to cause any ill feelings. I prefer to live peaceably with people too! I would love to keep a roo though. I think they help keep the hens in line sometimes!
Can anyone tell yet if these are hens or roos? I think these are a little more clear than the others I posted before. Do I need to wait more for the crest on the Polish?
My babies are getting to be about 2-3weeks and I want to find new homes for the cockerels before the crowing starts if possible (1 cranky neighbor would start trouble if I kept 1). Any help in sexing appreciated. I haven't had much experience with it so here's my best guesses. Anyone who knows...
So she would probably be happier with another silkie? I loved her brother he was docile but I can't keep a roo where I live. I was looking at chicks, but should I look closer to her same age? She is 7 mo. My EE gets along with her, but she still is a bit aloof from the flock.
I have 1 with a slight cross beak. She doesn't gain weight as well with the general population, but she was lonely the last time I separated her. She does eat and drink but doesn't always get the same amount of food b/c she is pushed away. Not sure what to do.
I have a silkie I think is a hen, but she's a bit aggressive. She's gotten more aggressive since I gave her brother away. I have no other silkies. Should I get her a new silkie friend or just remove and reintroduce her to combat aggressive behaviors?
So far she has still been eating and drinking from what I've seen-I was not able to observe yesterday though. I feed them the Dumor crumbles from Tractor Supply.I did recently add scratch and mealworms. There is one other Silkie. The others are an EE and 2 Black Sex LInks. The other Silkie is...
I've never had a sick chicky before. I have a 5 month old Silkie who is having runny amber colored poop, acting lethargic, and tonight I discovered her sleeping outside the coop away from the flock. I just tonight started Poly vi sol (w/o iron) in the flock water. I have 4 other chickies who are...
I have an opossum that lives somewhere nearby. Do they bother chickens? The eggs are safely laid in the housing unit and I do use chicken wire on the run, but there's a small gap I'm a little concerned about.
I have had some success on test spots recently for mold using a water, vinegar, and dawn solution with lavender oil. I will be scrubbing down my whole coop tomorrow.
Oh Wow, thanks for the info. I may rethink the breeds. I'm confident about wanting to get an Americana but maybe I won't get the bantams. Are there other breeds that would introduce better?
This is great information as I have been thinking about adding to my flock and have been worried about everything that was fully addressed in this article. Thank you for posting it!
I've been thinking about adding to my small flock but would prefer to get chicks again and introduce them to my hens. I'm a little hesitant as I don't know how my hens will react. I have 2 GLWs one dominant(Creepers) and one submissive(Thelma)- I would like to get different breeds too (thinking...
My hens have eaten spray insulation from their coop but never had any negative repercussions. I would assume, though, that your eggs would be fine in a couple of weeks once the chickens have processed the chemicals out of their systems. I agree with donrae, keep cracking and checking the smell.
I have 2 Gold Laced Wyandottes that are 1 year old. Both lay regularly and usually give me a medium size egg. Recently, my dominant girl gave me an egg 3x her normal size. Is this a fluke or can I do something that would increase my chances of her doing it again. The only explanation I could...
My 2 GLW girls just turned 6 months and have just started laying this week. I got 1 egg on the first day, none on the second, and 2 on the third. I had only been feeding them Dumor crumbles for layers (it said it was a complete formula that would not need extra calcium) but decided to add oyster...
