Thank you for your calm reply!
I put Daphne in a few inches of warm water. He does have wounds on his bill but he was able to drink some water and even eat 1 or 2 of his very favorite green peas. The only other wounds seem to be on the right side of his head and the right side of his...
As we just pulled in the drive I could see into the duck yard- it looked like a large bird, possibly some kind of Owl, took flight into a nearby tree. I saw Daphne, the WH flap his wings and head into the night pen. By the time we got out to the pen, Daphne was inside their actual house not...
My 4 just peeped and chatted FOREVER! I held out hope for 10+ weeks that I had at least 1 female....nope, all 4 males. The duck (female) very distinctively quacks and the drake is raspy and sounds almost hoarse and can be hard to describe....but is NOT a quack.
It sounds like you have 1 duck...
This just started today...
I mist my 3 felonious drakes every day. They have a pool, but they seem to enjoy 'biting' the sprayed water and running back and forth through the mist. Anyway today after I had misted them Daphne kinda puffed all his feathers up, let out a raspy squawk, his neck...
Awww, thank you! Poor Daphne is not the brightest bulb, but he is the friendliest.
I'm going to think about the rescue in Indian Trails. Thank you so much for the offer, I may take you up on it :D
The duck eggs hang up is my own crazy issue. My husband will eat them, I just don't think I can...
I've been looking into rescue ducks/drapes. I think the nearest is in NC and that is still quite a trek for me.
I'm leaning towards an all drake flock for 2 reasons 1. Females lead to many ducklings which eventually leads to MANY ducks. 2. I would never eat a duck egg....I have some weird...
Well the boys have never had access to ducks and seem pretty dependent on each other. That is NOT to say there isn't bouts of non-consensual drake-on-drake action! They mostly work it out without any intervention.
I have: Mose-Cayuga, Niles-Khaki Campbell, and Daphne-Welsch Harlequin (I...
I currently have 3 drakes just over a year old. They get along pretty well (except when in the pool/pond where every molester is also a moles-tee). If I dare to separate the current bully all three carry-on like I'm making Duck l'orange right in front of them.
So I am thinking of adding some...
If I separate them for a week or two and everyone does well, I will try putting them back together. If the 4 cannot get along even then, I will have to seriously think about re-homing one of the pairs.
I just hate this. It's not actual fighting between them- no one is injured or even losing...
I have no idea how I managed to pick 4 drakes out of about 100 ducklings!
Unfortunately I do not see any way I could make 2 separate areas permanently. I really wish that was an option. I am going to try separating them into pairs for a a week or two to make sure Daphne and Mose can get along...
It's a tough one, I love those 4 brats! In all honesty I know I cannot separate Nile and Doc-they are definitely a pair. I think Mose and Daphne shoudl stay together simply because they have always got along, and I am afraid that without Daphne, Mose becomes the odd-drake out.
I hate the...
I have 4 males about 10 months old. They have been together since day 1 (I got them when they were about 2 or 3 days old).
Daphne (WH), Niles (KC), Doc (Runner), and Mose (Cayuga).
All summer Niles picked on Daphne- it was never too bad, more like a little nip here and there. Nile also picked...
I was just out there doing a water change and sprayed that little demon with a water bottle when he started going after Daphne. He figured out what was happening and decided to give Mose a nip instead (Mose is a quite large Cayuaga).
Mose nipped him back
This tit-for-tat seems to have led to...
I don't completely disagree but Niles is not what I would call just mean. He is just fine with people, no aggression, and he doesn't always go after Daphne. I don't know, maybe I'm making excuses for him
We have several dogs and one of them is bad bad bad- but he is my special guy. Maybe I am...
Thanks Miss Lydia, I think the great bully Niles is in need of enjoying his own company for a little while! He is such a little ****, but so dang cute! I tell everyone that Niles has 'short man syndrome' abd that is why he is a bully, Even though he is not the thinnest (that is Doc our Runner)...
I have 4 males who are around 6 months- Mose, Niles, Doc, Daphne. They have been together since day 1. Their outdoor area is decent size. There is a very secure pen which is 20x20 and has their 4x4 house in it. They love that house and run into it at any chance. During the day (about 8am-8pm)...
My 4-pack of felons are a drake only pack. In their pen (20x20) and their yard (25x30) there really is not any fighting-although Niles, who seems to be leader of the pack, will often chase Daphne around. But they definitely all stick together! They are nearly 6 months old.
Now when they get in...
Well my 4-pack of Drakes are nearly 5 months old now....and they are all brats (but very cute)!
They are still using a kiddie pool (pond should be finished in the next few weeks), but they barely want to get in because it is the 'pool of perversion'! They swim around in a circle, each one...
My 4-pack of felons is now 13 weeks old. I have been pretty sure for awhile they are all drakes. My Runner (Doc) has the most pronounced drake-feather and the KC (Niles) and Cayuga (Mose) have the curled feather, just not as pronounced as Doc. But my WH (Daphne) has all the coloring of a male...
