    "Stella" Barred Rock or "Peach" Buff Orpington??

    We have two hens that lay "brown" eggs. Keep in mind, we are novice chicken owners in Sacramento, CA ... Any idea which hen is laying the speckled eggs?? I assume it's Peach but can't confirm.

    Which one of these is most freindly/ your favorite?

    "Stella" (7 months old when pic was taken "Stella" (6 1/2 months old when pic was taken) our Barred Rock hen is really freindly. As soon as I walk outside she comes running as fast as she can and sits down next to me waiting for her scratch..

    Thank You. Since I am a "rookie" at raising chickens.. I have a question you might be able to answer. Sacramento winters are generally mild but this year we have had a few nights dip to 33 + or - degrees. Should I be warming the coop or are my “children” fine?

    Quick introduction: About a year ago City of Sacramento approved residents to own up to 3 chickens (no roosters) within city limits. So, with my two sons (8 & 13) we went down to the local feed store and picked up 2 day old Petunia, Stella & Peach. Eight months later, we have eggs!
