So today the quail are about 20 days old and I decided to sex them to figure out how many I would be keeping and how many needed to be culled. So far it looks like I have about 5 males and 3 females. I tried vent sexing them but, i'm not quite sure what i'm looking for; so I just went by breast...
I too just hatched jumbo coturnix for the first time and they started hatching on day 18 & were all finished on day 19. I put them on lockdown on day 15 & boosted the humidity that same day. Good luck with your hatch!
I posted a pic on the thread labeled "Quail Hatching" I will be sure to post more as soon as I can :) I was about to give up hope and then I woke up from a nap on day 17 and there were about 4 eggs that had pipped! Patience is key my friend :P

Thank you! and yes they are ADORABLE!! Well its day 18 and out of the 20 eggs, that I purchased on ebay, 9 hatched! Not bad since the weather was pretty chilly when they shipped to me in Michigan & I only was able to fit 12 of the eggs on auto turn, and I still am going to wait another 48 hours...
The first baby fresh out of it's egg! I left the room for 10 minutes, while I was preparing dinner, and the egg went from a pip to being fully hatched!!
Thanks foe the info! I boosted the humidity as soon as I saw the first pip. So far I have had 7 hatch! one died shortly after hatching :/ he was very weak… But I guess thats natures way. It looks like I may get 2 more today so I am very excited!
So im incubating my first ever batch of quail eggs and so far 5-6 of them have pipped around 1:00pm and i haven't seen anymore action since then. Is this normal? I know it can take 12-24 hours for them to fully hatch, I just want to make sure 5 hours without any movement is normal. Any input is...
