Update:
The next two eggs from the Splash tom and the Self Blue hen hatched and are Self Blues. I have 1-2 more eggs to go and then I am done hatching Slates this year (I think).

Here are my Slate turkey poults at a day old.... The parents of these guys are a pair of Splash Slates. I have a few eggs in the incubator which ought to hatch in a few days which are from a Splash tom and a Self-Blue hen. Out of 6 eggs I now have got my starter flock for my new farm here (I do...
My thing in turkeys are Slates. I have other varieties, but will always raise the Slates. I realize this is an old thread, but in case anyone else wanted to know sometime...
The greyish ones with the white faces are Splash/Slates. The ones which are all lighter will be Self Blue/Lavenders...
I found a neighbor had duck eggs and since we have a world's supply of snails and millions of Banana Slugs here at the farm (and I raise heritage vegetables for seed), I decided I needed ducks. I don't bring live chicks in unless it is from a certified source (NPIP), usually incubate fertile...
I have raised Royal Palms (since 1977, which started my love for heritage birds), Auburn, Black Spanish, (real) Chocolate, Bourbon Red, and Blue Slates in the past. I really have always had a thing for my Slates. Just starting up again at my new home, I currently I have Narragansett, Slates and...
Wow... Terry had another stroke. He had one about 2-3 weeks ago and he was telling me about it when I went to the hatchery. He has been fighting cancer for the last year.

I stopped by there today on my way back home from a doctors appointment, as we did not get a call after placing our order a week and a half ago. I talked with Terry today and there has been some health issues with breeders (human, not bird -- one may have actually died, and one had her baby 2...
The honey I used came from 2 sources. My friend's bee hives in Wisconsin and my bf's hives in the Corvallis, Oregon area. Both are raw and both are filtered (gotta get rid of the bee wings and such *ugh*).
Like I said, before a couple years ago I would have said BS and 'you are going to kill...
I have been a vet tech for 20+ years and normally until the last couple of years I would have shaved it with a #40 blade, cleaned it with Betadine/Povodine, antibiotics etc. But the new thing I have been doing is proven thus far on for a stray cat who had mastitis and sloughed off 4 of her...
I know Terry and have met him several times. There has been some health issues on top of starting out, but I think all is better now. He is a really nice guy and seems to have a true love of birds. He has been hatching for others for a long time and is very knowledgeable.

It is quite beautiful and SOOOOO quiet there. It will be a challenge however as there is alot of wildlife who I am sure would love a poultry dinner, not to mention cougar and bear. But we will have to work out a compromise... like leave my livestock alone and you can live. I realize I am moving...
