Anyone order from Farwest hatchery out of Oregon??

I too ordered from Farwest Hatchery.
I wanted to give the local guy a chance.
Out of the 12 chicks I ordered, 6 are confirmed roosters!
I would say their 90% accuracy rate is more like 50%.
I also got a brahma instead of a light sussex.
I am very frustrated that I have to get rid of these roosters, who is going to want them?
And that I will have half as many hens for eggs that should be ready to lay in September.
My friend ordered 8 chicks, 1 died, 1 is club footed & 1 is a rooster so far.
I have called twice a day & emailed them but no one will respond.
I will not order from them again.

I know Terry and have met him several times. There has been some health issues on top of starting out, but I think all is better now. He is a really nice guy and seems to have a true love of birds. He has been hatching for others for a long time and is very knowledgeable.

I'm sure he loves his birds, but you can't run a good business off of love alone. Hatching for other people and running a hatchery are completely different, and his lack of organization is costing him customers. Communication is KEY and if you're not addressing the needs of your customers then you're not running a good business. Especially if you're taking money and not providing what they paid for.

I got a call from his new secretary today. She has been on the job for 2 days now and just learning the ropes.

Tried to use Farwest Hatchery last year. I placed my order online and received part of my chicks 3 weeks later than promised (30 out of 50) and 50% were Roosters! I also got Light Sussex and sold them as Light Sussex at 6 weeks only to find out through my customer base that they were really Light Brahmas. I called Farwest and was told I could pick up the rest of my birds the following week at the hatchery. I went to the Hatchery 5 times and either no one was there or they did not have my birds. Lets say it did not end well. On my last visit I was told (with colorful words) to leave there property and not return. I left in tears and will never do business with them again! I lost a few customers because I could not supply them with the Pullets they wanted but I learned a valuable lesson!

I just heard that the feed store that used them last year is using them again this year. I know they had problems last year, it silk be interesting to see if things have improved this year.

The feed store that used them last year IS NOT using them this year. At least the store I by from will never use them again!
