Neck being plucked bare and other problems

I have 12 hens (no rooster) and here are some of the problems I've been running into. Three of my girls have their neck feathers (down the front) plucked bare, 3 others have parts of their wings plucked down to their feather shafts and one girl has no tail feathers but not a bare bottom/vent...

    Tail Feathers

Is it possible to sex Silkies based on their tail feathers and do different colors show different signs? My little fluff balls are 10 weeks old now and I have 2 ea Buff, White and Blue (bearded) and I'm picking up some more today. I was under the assumption they were all girls until my favorite...

When can my chicks go outside?

Thank you for the reply. To some point common sense told me they are ok to put out, but then the mothering takes over and it's hard to win that one over because you want to be absolutely sure you are doing right by them. We got down/feathers so off to big chicken world they go. Thanks again!

When can my chicks go outside?

I'm new to raising chicks and I'm wondering what "fully feathered" means? I have 7 week old Silkies and 5 week old Red's. We are in southern Oklahoma and the temp at night is in the 40's.

7 week old Silkie's and feathering

We began having chickens last year and decided to try raising a few chicks because we so enjoyed our adults. We decided to add 6 Silkies (2 Buff, 2 White, 2 Blue) that are 7 weeks old today and 6 Tractor Supply Red Pullets that are 5 weeks old to the mix. Last week we realized that at least one...

    Chick with leg problems

I'm a first time chick owner and learning by trial and error (mostly both). We were lead to believe you could leave a chick in the coop after it hatches and it would be accepted by the flock. Oh, how wrong our source was. Now I have a 21 day old chick cross between a Silky and Brahma that within...
