Multiple breeds, chicks sparring a lot.

They should be alright as long as no one gets trampled. It just becomes more of a problem I believe if they're say bantams and regular chicks or multiple ages.

    Saipan Jungle Fowl

Sounds like a plan to me...but make sure you only clip one wing not two. I was planning on letting mine free range. Just got them this morning and they are nosier than the Sumatras. They've been chirping away. I didn't know what the rooster on my avatar was either. Some told me he's a red...

    Cat food for chickens?

Great post! I had a cat that ran away and now I'm stuck with a bag of cat food. Reading this makes me feel it's okay to give the chickens a little bit of it as a snack. I believe I'll check the sodium content before giving it to them though.

Bad Case of Northern Fowl Mites

Okay, got it. We have a lot of wild birds too that we feed. The chickens are free range and eat dropped food from the feeders so that may be the cause. I'll go an Google the Permethrin to find out more about it. Thanks again for all your help. I may just get them beat or at very least...

Bad Case of Northern Fowl Mites

Well I cleaned out the coops today. Removed all the hay and pine shavings, even vacuumed out the nest boxes. Then dusted all of them and sprayed the coops with permethrin. I may spray the coops again tomorrow since I have nearly 1.5 gallons of the mix left. Anyone think I should dust some...

Bad Case of Northern Fowl Mites

Thanks! I just read about your ordeal in another thread. I believe it was in 2009. Thanks for all the information. They had them once before, but this time I think it's worse. Already lost one chicken maybe due to the mites. I need to check on the weather for tomorrow so I can get this...

Bad Case of Northern Fowl Mites

The hen pictured in the front of this picture was walking with her tail feathers tucked under. So I picked her up and noticed she had a bad case of northern fowl mite infestation (per a book I bought) on her rear. It was actually quite disgusting the feathers were black and her skin looked...
